I have a 400w and im doing fine... but 600w wud be jus the same maybe even better.
About the heat, Well uu could simply set the timer so that the light turns on during the night so the light can provide heat for the plants in very cold nights and give them night periods during the day as the sun will provide heat...Since i didnt have a heater,
I had a problem and the temp was dropping to 46 degrees f...because i was running the lights during the day but now ive switched and there doing fine!
i had to give them a long night period tho to change the light cycle so that they would turn on at the desired time..
600 is WAY better. 600w HPS is THE MOST Efficient HPS lamp available.

400w lamp puts out about 55000 Lumens, the 600w puts out 98 000 Lumens with only 200w more.

400w lights area a waste of money, always opt for 600w.

You can always get one of those adjustable galaxy select-a-watt electronic ballasts, they do 400w-600w-1000w all in one ballast. that's my next investment about $280. The one I have now is a select-a-watt but it's the 400w-240w-overdrive 400w bulb to 420w model... It's not very hot even when I ran it with a non air cooled reflector it ran cool unless you touched it with your bare hand.

bro too many people talking shit but alot are saying the right things too . 400W IS FOR CHEAP PEOPLE OR UNINFORMED IGNORANTS. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE REAL RESULTS EVEN IN YOUR SMALL SPACE A 600W WILL GIVE U THE BUDS YOU WANT. AND LIKE YOU WERE TOLD A 6 INCH FAN WILL BE REQUIRED TO AIR COOL IT. WILL COST YOU A LITTLE MORE TO GET GOING BUT WILL PAY ITSELF IN THE LONG RUN. THE 400W IN THAT SPACE WONT HAVE ENOUGH PENETRATION TO GIVE U ALL AROUND GOOD YIELD. I USE TO GROW WITH 4 400W CAUSE I JUST HAD THEM. I SWITCH THOSE TO 2 600W AND I'M GETTING BETTER RESULTS BECAUSE OF BETTER PENETRATION USING LESS WATTAGE. 600W OR 1000W. 400W ARE FOR STUDENTS LIVING ON CAMPUS....

i'm running a galaxy 400/600w mh/hps digital ballast, yield master 2 6" hood, agrosun super red bulb, and a 6" inline .. ya can lay your hand on the glass its warm but nowhere near hot .. i was gonna opt for a 400 but at 5500 and the 600 at 90,000 there was no choice but do a 600 over the 400.

i have a 600 phantom xtrasun 6 in ac hood and eiko bulb, i have a 4x4 and my temps stay near 80, I vent into the closet but also use a box fan for intake, great results though with that 600 so far...
