HM for vegation and HPS for flower As mentioned air movement is just important as the light really a plant grow space air needs to be removed (circulated) ever 30 seconds or so One can figure your (formula) "cfm's" need for your grow space

wrong. mh is hotter than hps.
my hps is alot hotter burns lots of reds in spectrum my mh burns blue in spectrum and is alot cooler. im using 1000w. ill do a test with thermastat at same hight from light and post the pics for you to see i'll do one bulb mh today and hps tomorrow. in my case it is. there are alot of diffrent spectrum lights on the market i think spectrum might play a roll in amount of heat produced by a bulb.

look at it this way: a 1000 hps produces roughly 140000 lumens. a 1000 mh produces roughly 110000 lumens. if mh produces less lumens, it must produce more heat if they are both 1000watts.

hps lighting burns at alot higher temps then mh. i use 1000 w mh for veg then 1000w hps for flower. the mh bulb i keep 12-14inches away from conopy. my hps i keep 18/26 inches away open bulbs no cool tubes
It's the opposite for me my MH runs about 5° hotter then my HPS... that's why I came back to this thread because I listed my light distances backwards .
