400W Newbie Feminized Haze Grow Log

Mainlining: I am going to use this method on at least one plant. Basically you top at 3rd node and trim all the way up to the 3rd node so that all of your plant structure comes out of 1 node. I will do it with a few plants that I topped at 2nd node. I don't think it will matter much.

Question: Do all these plants look like the same varietal? The leaves on my fastest growing plant [back right] have a different look to them.

Group Shot Update Day 27:

All my plants have roots that go all the way around the bottom of the pot but not completely filling the container. I transplanted one of them to see how it responds. The plant that I transplanted has responded very slowly to being Topped so I gave it a new 11 liter home. That is most likely its finishing pot and won't be transplanted again.

Mainline:

I am thinking this is going to add considerable time to the grow but am not sure. I think I read it adds 5 days to your grow time. Not sure how long I am going to veg for but probably at least another two weeks. I will veg as long I feel I have to.

I have since clipped the 16 gauge wire. It was very awkward trying to get the wires just right. They are pretty loosely attached but seem to apply just the right amount of pressure to the stems. I will have to monitor them closely so the stems don't overgrow the wires. Stakes would be a lot easier! The wire probably gives you more control. Just another boring update...there has been a lot of growth in two days.

nice.. yeah I was expecting a plant to be in stress for few days or so, but it picked up the growth and in five days I could not believe hopw much bigger they became after topping... I kind of had problems with those wires, the thicker the wire the more difficult to bend without disturbing the plant and then I remembered that I had loads of metal used for soldering iron. It bends way easier than a wire, works for me, but I doubt that this is worth the money if you are not planning to reuse it for soldering in the future..

btw plants look really nice, keep it green!

They are starting to grow now...I am getting a little bored with veg and am really looking forward to start flowering but that won't be for another 2 weeks or so. We will see how they take off this next week. I did some LST today with cloths hangars clipped to size and bent. They work awesome!!

What is the purpose behind mainlining? I usually just top and lst my plants, but I like how the mainlining looks. I might give it a try, but I just wanted to here your reasoning behind using this method. Looks great by the way!

The below thread will not only explain how to do it in detail but why, it is topping and lsting your plants. just in a certain way :)

Hope this helps!

The theory behind mainlining is basically that working off of 1 node your stems/buds get equal love from the plant resulting in big fat colas of equal size instead of 2 nice colas and 2 smaller spindly ones. My plant is absolutely loving it! I should top her again for 4 colas but not sure if I have the time. I am looking to flip the lights in the next 2 weeks.

Seeing that room under the light is at a premium I might mainline another plant yet and have 4 plants topped once (a la uncle ben) and two plants mainlined for 2 colas each on either side of the 4 main plants. That would give me 20 colas in total :bigjoint: I did not plan on having 8 plants growing at this point so I need to figure a few things out...I don't think I can fit 6 full plants under the light but 4 plants and 2 mainlines might work. Not really sure what to do quite yet but I have a lot of transplanting to do in the next few days.

44 days from germination and the plants are going berserk! They busted out of their spikes and are growing at an alarming pace. I may have to keep cutting them back until fall. [they are staying outside and love it) I can't have 6 or even 12 foot tall plants^^

A quick update:

Their growth spurt is over. The plants are growing but a lot more slowly. I haven't given them a full dose of nutrients yet but plan on giving them a good dose next watering. I am on day 52 of veg and the plants look pretty healthy. I will post some pictures another day. :blsmoke:
