400w mh question(bulbs)

I have a 400w mh street light im using. Right now I have the bulb that came with it, I want to change it but On the inside of the hood it says t-15 t-18 and ed-38 style lamp only.Ive looked around and they dont seem to be that common and still havent found a conversion bulb in that type.

my questions are:

does anyone know where to find a mh and conversion bulbs in that type?

If i use a different type of 400w will i have a high risk of fire?

or am i thinking to much into it and they mean that is what will fit inside the hood?

Thats the common type. Thats what my 400w home depot metal halide says. M59/E28. Any common 400w mh should be fine.

Actually not sure on the ed38 lol... Look for an "M" code on the ballast or lamp. If its M59 thats the normal everyday 400w metal halide.

I do see m59 on my ballast. so maybe t-15 t-18 ed-38 are what fit in the hood. When the light turns off tonight ill look what the bulb i and see what it says. i know its not the normal round one it has a little flat spot on the top

Looking at google, I think the T15/t18 are bulbs that must be run in an enclosed fixture, which from the sounds of it is what you have. Im not sure if you can run a lamp rated to be run in an "open" fixture can be run in a closed fixture, but I would guess it could be.

Im not really sure, I think a lamp rated to be used in a fixed/closed fixture are rated for that because they might be more likely to rupture... I would get an open fixture rated lamp myself the home depot phillips lamps are fine if money is tight.

I dont plan on keeping it forever just for a grow or two. im gonna slowly upgrade everything(a light will be one of the first).
I was thinking of finding fiberglass or something and drilling it to the hood, then i could keep it a cooler.

Ill check out homedepot in a few days to check there bulbs
