400w MH or 1000w HPS for veg?

Hi I was wondering, based on the different spectrums of light, what would be best for vegging my girls. A 400w metal halide, or a 1000w high pressure sodium. Thanks.

always heard that mh does better for "spring" like light and hps for "autumn" spectrum...personally i like new wave fluro for veg

I would use florecents for the early stage of veg. I think it helps the plants start better. and then switch to the MH to get them nice and big (when u put in the MH you can pull the mother plant and keep it under the floros somewhere). then switch your plants to the HPS for Budding.

Its funny you said that.... i just did a clone/mother area thats 24 hr... and I have 5 100w fluros in their. My plants are insanely big for their age, and so far I've been really happy with their growth.

If I had to choose between 400 MH and 1000 HPS for veg and electricity was no issue I would go with the 1000 HPS. I know the light spectrum isn't Ideal for veg but there is so much more light it would keep your nodes close and grow your plants faster than the 400 mh.

Thanks for that info... Im going out to buy a metal halide ballast, so I will be running a 1000w HPS, and 400w metal halide in dual spectrum.

How do you think that'll compare to using just MH, or just HPS

I have both of those lamps and contemplated the same thing. Everyone told me to stay with the 400w MH. They said things would start stretching if I vegged under the 1000 HPS. I am still using the metal halide now.
