400w light vs 250w light in my growbox?

So I have my first grow box built. Its 2x2x3 and im trying to decide on my lighting. I found a great deal on a 400w switchable mh/hps lighting system but im worried about this being to hot for my small grow box. My exhaust fan is 76 cfm and the box is in a air conditioned room. Will this be enough ventilation or should I go with a 250w and a couple cfls?

probably will find that doubling ur cfm on ur exhasut fan will help cool either 1 of the lights much better..

a 400hps might be overkill in your small box but i would get it anyways cause you can allways get a bigger box. I dont know much about inline fans cause ive never used one. I have a 150W HPS light with no duct work or inline fans. I simply have a box fan blowing on my plants. I would recommend getting a cool tube for that light and an inline duct fan like your talking about. But I dont know what size of inline fan you would need. Hope some of this makes since as ive just woken up and havent gotten high yet.

if i were u i would do 12/12 from seed to harvest with a 250 watt HPS simply because the heat would be so much more manageable in that space.

That's a real small space to put a hid in, I take it the height is 3'? Allow 8" for the pot/s, 6" for the space the lamp and reflector take up and at least 8" distance from the plant to the light, unless you shell out for an air cooled reflector. That leaves just 14 inches for your plant/s to grow in. You'll have to go 12/12 from seed/clone and train extensively to keep them from getting burned, even with kick-ass ventilation. I'd build a bigger box personally.
If for whatever reason you stick with this, try to get a cold air feed directly into the box from your ac, and make sure the exhaust goes out of the room, outside preferably. You'll want a good 100-150cfm fan, and get a centrifugal, or vortex type fan as the inline axials will be defeated by more than a couple of feet of straight ducting.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck and happy growing.

Better man up on some serious ventilation.
I have 600wHPS in a rather open space with some fans going and at times, it can get warmer than I like.
I would go 250 if I were you.
I bought my 600 from HTG. Originally went in for a 400. I love my lamp, but i have some room to grow. Being a first timer, I would have killed my plants at 400w in a 2x2x3...!

I have a 400 watt HPS in a 30"x30"x48" cabnet. I started off with a 50cfm bathroom exhaust fan. I had to upgarde to a 250cfm to keep it cool enough inside that cabnet. I struggled for a couple of weeks before getting the new fan and nothing worked to keep the heat down. Start right. I personally wish I went bigger with the height of my box. I couldn't imagian a 3 foot height. I would defantly go bigger if you can if your going with the 400 watter.
