Ok, i just recieved a brand spankin new 400w hps with a bat-wing hood, and it is not air cooled. Just trying to gather info before the first flower with it. So, I'm setup in a closet, 6hx4wx3d. Question is(are), How hot is this thing gonna get in a space that small? And do I need to come up with some type of cooling for it? Also, how high above the plant should I put it? I know those lights get hot, so hopefully I can make do with the space.

you can probably get away with a fan over the plant and an exhaust out of the room. the best way to go is to add an aircooled hood if you can exhaust the air.

for light distance place your hand at the top of the plant. Lower your light as far as you can without your hand getting too hot. Keep the light at that distance as the plant grows.

I have almost the exact same room dimensions that you have. When I added my 400watter, the temp went up to almost 88degrees. My fan on high drops the temp down to 78degress.

Don't forget an air filter its gonna stink something serious in there once flowering gets going.... I have a similar set up with a 400 HPS in my closet (H 5'' x W 3'' x Depth 3'') I keep my light on at night because everything is alot cooler and does help with the temps

I'm set up in a nice cold basement so hopefully that'll help, I run my lights at night too, for the temps as well, but mostly so i can keep checkin on my girls after work. How tall do u guys let urs get before flower? I'm basically plannin on my plant doubling in size during flowering, but i'd like to get the plants close to two feet tall if i can.
