400w cool tube distance from seedlings ??

OK so I have a grown with cfls before but this is my first grow with my new 400w setup. I have seedling sprouts and wanted to know what distance is safe without burning the new plants . I'm using a 6 inch cool tube with 440 fan n filter in in 3 x3x6 tent.

OK so I was thinking that 2-3' to start. So should I bring them closer daily or ever other second or third day ? I'm worried about stretching since Iont know how close is too close . They are a week old 1.5 inches tall

Why use such a big light on so small plants is dumb....use a small 23w cfl, until you have read some more....?

Daily should be fine. Even at 2-3' stretching should be minimal. Some, maybe most, seedlings are strong enough to take the light from the time they break surface. Sometimes you will get a seedling that doesn't respond well to it immediately. Within a couple of days they will be strong enough to be 18" or so from the light.

hiya illa101k2, looking at the Chart(Mh) - 16-18" gives you between 6,446 - 5,093 L (Optimal distance Range) I think plant needs 5000L for decent growth from what I've read..why not just hang a CFL 2-3" above seedlings (if you still got the CFL knocking about) for a week or so and keep lowering the Hps slowly?
