400 watt Mh conversion ??

Okay so I purchased these 400 watt lights for $10 a peice, good deal thats why i bought before i new the answer to this question...
Can I convert these to HPS ? do they have a conversion bulb from MH to HPS ? If so Where? or would I just purchase a Light fixture? My plan was to make these remote ballast but I want HPS for Flowering? Thank You...

Yes they make them, but they are expensive and they suck. You're better off just using the MH and some added 2700k CFL's to flower than an HPS conversion bulb

So I 'd flower with Cfl's? wouldnt it take alot of those to flower maybe 6 plants? and do they pack the punch even a shitty conversion bulb would? Thanks for the quick reply too.

Im confused with your light situation. Do you have 1 metal halide or two? Either way, metal halides are fine for flowering. Many growers choose to use them all the way through their grow. The blue light spectrum reduces stretch in the first few weeks of flower anyway. I read somewhere that a 400 watt MH will yield 15% less than a 400 watt HPS but it will make more potent bud (which is a good deal if you ask me).

If you wanted to add some red spectrum though, I'd go to home depot and buy a few 68 watt 2700k bulb for 15 bucks a piece. These CFL's are huge.

Okay im following you now, I see some folks used to only use MH lights through their whole grow.
I would just need to go to 12/12 at flowering and add a couple Cfl's in there to complete the light spectrum ?
do cfl's come in warm white /cool white or would i get any one of them at 68 watt 2700k ?

Yeah 12/12 puts them into flower no what what spectrum. And in terms of CFL's: Soft white=2700k daylight= 5500-6500k there's also cool white which is i think 4100 and theres another one thats 3500 I think but you don't use those for growing.

You want the soft white.

I use a MH conversion bulb in my HPS ballast and it works just fine. The heat it throws off surprised me, runs alot hotter than my HPS bulb does. And it was not any more expensive than my HPS bulb is.

What you have is an HPS->MH bulb
He's talking about a MH->HPS bulb which is even worse

How about re-wiring the ballast and putting a HPS socket on the end? it's still 400 watt right? I do have a Socket for Hps it says 600 volt 1500 watt on the inside of the Porceline socket two wires coming offf it...

It doesn't work that way...and if it does its not that easy. You should really just flower with the Mh and a few CFl's. That's the best thing for your situation
