I have some 400 watt mercury bulbs all new in the box ( found them in my garage ) i had one running for a while on my mother the temps go up like an hps and becomes white as hell... i mean heaven . The specs on the box is 22,000 lumens and gives ultra violet thats as far as i know , if eny one here ever hurd of growing under mercury let me know , ty .

Fuck lumens. Your major concern is what spectrum first off. UVB is known to be deadly in some applications.

not to mention 22,000 lumens is considerably less than the lumens a 400 hps puts out. i am pretty sure you can't grow with it, but give it a try and post pics if you want.

You could give it a try.

Its got a 3900k rating. Id supplement it with a few 42 watt 2700k CFLs tho

you are much better off getting a metal halide bulb for vegging.

mercury vapour bulbs use alot of juice, are not as many lumens, run too hot and do not provide the same light spectrum.

MH bulbs are not expensive at all.
