i have a 600 hps in a 6x5x8 room with out ac it gets to 95+ degrees. a 400 mh for veg and it goes to 87+ degrees with out ac. be ready for some heat trouble just my 2 cents
bring in some cold air from outside if you live in a cold weather state with a temp controller or look up for this thread AC Boxes Made Easy (to understand and build)

You could do it, but it might be a bit overkill at ~56W/sqft. A 315W LEC would work perfect for that footprint.
I doubt you'll have an issue using the 400W.
I hope not we will see
