400 watt hps/mh conversion hid

it will work. but I would get new mh asap. at least my hps cost 60.00+ bucks. mh is much lower.

do i need to get another conversion bulb or will a regular MH bulb from home depot work ok?

if you have a mh ballist it would take a regular mh bulb.

so would a surge protector have prevented this? also is it a good idea to have a decent ventilation system for the ballast itself since that gets rather hot or is it ok to just leave it in a semi-cool environment?

I don't know why it blew. Don't know if it would help. I have mine on one.

just thought i should note that after a week of using this light (had to switch to hps for the last 3 days), my plants have grown quite a bit and are perfectly healthy green.

now on to the next phases of the set up
