400 watt hps: is it good for my grow tent?

400 w is extremely high for that amount of space.
if u dont have the right ventilation, with venting tubes, multiple fans, cooltubes, youre gonna be in a lot of trouble.
you might want to look into a 250w and get a couple extra mini lights if need be. if u look on eBay, ofc all the sellers will shout "400w 400w is the way to go" but theyre trying to move product. 400w is neither the median nor the the average light needed because everything is based on grow size. and if ur overheating ur plant, ur yield will def suffer.
What a bunch of rambling crap. A 400 is the way to go in a 32x32 inch tent.

I beg to differ. Numerous grow guides reccomend 5k-7k lumens per square foot in the right spectrum. I did the math and with my lights I'm around 2k per square foot. It is my understanding that with more of the correct light you get more dense nugs, up to a point that is. To say that Im wasting anything with tiny Hid's is misleading
A 150 is good for about 16"x16". They penetrate only a few inches into the canopy.

I would use a 150 in a 1x1 space so for a 4x4 space ill use a 1000..All you need is good ventilation and you can squeeze a light in a tight spot..Ive seen a 600 in a 3x3 space....So i know a 1000 will fit in a 4x4 with no problem

i agree if you got the fan to run the light hell why not go 1000!! a 400 cfm fan is plenty fine for even a 1000 i use a 400 cfm for 4 400's at the moment in a 8x8 room and it sucks my room dry and dramatically drops the temp in about a min so i run it on a timer till i get a heat/humidity controller. a good rule of thumb is for every 1000watts of light 150 cfm is needed to cool on the low end.

Is there any kind of inline exhaust fans perfect for a 6 inch ducting that are completely silent, I heard that both fans for inline and exhaust fans can be pretty loud and im doing a stealth grow in my house

you would need to get afan controlller and set it to medium or low so it can work quietly

for a tent that size I would use a 6 inch inline+carbon filter with a 400watt. buy a speed controller and its perfect. my veg cab is actually a 4x2x5 and my flower is a 4x4x6.5.

what i have found is the fan with no ducting on it is kinda loud but once all up and runnin with ducting it gets quieter and when you hook a carbon filter to the intake it silences it even more so not incredibly loud after all said and done.
