400 CFM fan too good to be true?

Currently running a 600Watt cooltube and a scrubber w/ one fan
I was looking online for a second fan for ventilating the tent w/ scrubber attached and came across this...

I'm skeptical because its an inline duct tube style... at most I've seen these style fans w/ a 6in diameter claiming 240CFM max . Has anyone ever bought/used this type of fan? Should I stay away or could this style actually move 400CFM?

Unrestricted it could possibly move that amount.

Once ducting and filters etc are attached the CFM's deminishing quickly on duct booster style fans.


My advice is don't cheat yourself by going the cheap route.

A good inline centrifugal fan will last you an immense amount of time.

No thats a booster fan and isn't what you think trust me I own one, a 4in inline will put out 5x the flow that thing will.

those booster fans do not work all that well.

i picked up a 6" inline duct tube exhaust fan blower for under 60 bucks including shipping. i know it is not top of the line fan but it moves a lot of air. being a cheaper brand of fan, it may be louder than the expensive models but it works for me.

I bought the exact fan you posted up top, OP, and received it and installed it last week. I can't tell you how much cfm's it actually has but it works very well for me so far. I'm using it to pull fresh air in to my room. Very very powerful compared to the last one I had, which was listed at 6" and 160cfm. So far so good. For the price, I had to try it.

how do you plan on using booster if you do get it? inline with existing system? or by itself ?

He plans, from what I can gather, to use it connected to a filter to exhaust.

So you've actually bought and used it, with all these replies I'm even more skeptical but whats your room size and did you use it unrestricted? or ducted to a carbon filter and/or cool tube?

Yeah- I bought it and use it as we speak. My room is 3x2.5x4' high.

It's unrestricted and used as a pull from the outside through probably 8' of ducting.

It just sucks from the outside through my wall and into the side of my room.

I have a separate carbon filter/fan set up for exhaust.

But whatever, listen to everyone else if you want- in the end it's $40. Not that big a deal. It's a strong fan for what I need it for and it's not extremely quiet either, but what 400cfm 6" for $40 is? It's been a great buy for me so far.

you can get the 1 posted at home depot cheaper i think. they are ok for intake on tent but thats about it. prolly not any better than passive with good exhaust fan, imo.

Get one of these for your scrubber and never look back in regret. The fan you posted will not pull enough air through your filter. (Hurricanes are the same manufacturer as EcoPlus, yet even more affordable...solid, reliable)

Think about it...How much air do you really think a fan rated at 42 watts is going to push (or pull) compared to a fan rated at 120 - 130 watts?
