40% tax on weed?

"Yeah but if it loses, then the ability of individuals to grow marijuana themselves in their basement, six plants, still exists, and so if there is no regulatory structure that's funded, and that collapses, and the state is not able to allow shops and cultivation facilities to open up then you're going to give incentive to individuals to grow out of their basements". ~Joe Neguse from the Committee for Responsible Regulation
Obvious taking the ability to grow your own is on the chopping block.

Love how they try to demean growing in your residence by referring to it as people growing in basements.

Other states are watching Colorado.

further this list doesnt include the various "Sin Taxes" stamp taxes and other horseshit.

thats why a pack of butts in California currently hovers around $6.75, but when i was a lad of a mere 20 summers it was $2.80, and the carton price was even less

~250% increase in costs in 20 years. but yeah, theres no such thing as inflation

the government makes more money off tobacco than Evil Big Tobacco does.
i pick up marlboro red 100's, which are quite pricey, here in the middle of san jose.

and they don't cost $6.75.

cigarettes are taxed heavily because of the negative externalities associated, not because they are persecuting you.

Well, let us factor, then the entire equation.

Percent tax in the cost of let us say, 1 OZ. A "bag" of pot.

Supply and demand. The demand is met, I would say already. There will be not much more than this, I imagine. So, let us see what has happened to the dope prices at my clinic......gone DOWN because Supply is UP.

Different States and different counties will be different. It can be part of State Welfare. :)

I am saying the price in CA has already dropped 25% just on home grow compassion. I already pay 15% tax. Look at gas if you want an example of tax as price.

We could get to an economy that has $280 bags of good green and $80 is tax....I am still way better and more protected than ever.

In Colorado only state taxes are relevant and only taxes on alcohol.
There was no language in the amendment about tobacco.

The amendment was titled, regulate marijuana like alcohol. It is pretty clear.

If the feds want to tax weed, that is there business.
The state has no business taxing it at any rate above alcohol.
Fuck you politicians.

They can tax it anyway they want shit stain. And they can and will regulate it.
Wait till they start asking growers to buy a license and then limit the number of licenses

Got 10g for a license and a location that meets specs?

Of course they can ignore the will of the voters.
That does not make your insane fantasies more viable.

And they can and will regulate it.
They can not regulate me. It is in the constitution. They would have to change two constitutional amendments.
If you think that is going to happen you are dumber than I thought.
The sky is not falling and you are a dumbass.

They can't do that. You are really grasping at straws.

Yes I do. I know more than a few dispensary owners.

What color is the sky in your world?

What if it was legal to possess and grow illegal to sell?
Then you could grow all you want and not worry about getting your door kicked in

As Colorado prepares for the opening of historic recreational marijuana stores, state officials are preparing for something equally as unique — a regulatory challenge of almost maddening complexity.
Consider the headaches:
• Regulators must precisely audit the transactions of every pot store, even though those stores currently can't take credit cards and do business almost exclusively in slippery $10 and $20 bills.
• They must track the inventory weight of every business down to the gram, even though the weight of the same amount of marijuana can fluctuate daily based on things as variable as humidity.
• They must guard against both cash and marijuana leaking out of the legal market and into the black market, all while the federal government watches over their shoulder.
Faced with these challenges, marijuana regulators in Colorado stop short of guaranteeing an airtight system. But Ron Kammerzell, the state Department of Revenue's deputy senior director of enforcement, is confident the department will be able to catch most fraud.
"No control system is going to give you absolute assurance," Kammerzell said. "It's going to give you reasonable assurance."
Colorado's recreational marijuana regulatory plan — as well as its revised plan for regulating medical-marijuana dispensaries — will rely on two systems that dovetail together, Kammerzell said. The first is an inventory-tracking system. The second is a store's sales-tracking system. Together, Kammerzell said they should allow the state to monitor marijuana from the grow room until it leaves a store's showroom.
The inventory-tracking system, known as MITS, is intended to track the growth of radio frequency-tagged marijuana plants and also record the weight of the marijuana buds that are harvested off the plant. All marijuana businesses are required to enter inventory data into MITS.

TALK ABOUT REGULATING COMMERCIAL MARIJUANA!!!!

Colorado regulators expect to have an online inventory-tracking system for marijuana shops up and running in October, providing, for the first time, an important tool for oversight of the state's recreational and medical marijuana industries.
State Department of Revenue enforcement official Ron Kammerzell said the state will begin training employees of current medical-marijuana businesses on the new system in September and October. Kammerzell said the state will need to train between 2,000 and 3,000 people and will do so at locations across the state.
Kammerzell said existing medical-marijuana businesses will be transitioned onto the system — which will track marijuana plants through special radio-frequency tags — by December. The forthcoming recreational marijuana stores, which won't open until January, will have to create accounts on the system before they will receive a license to operate, Kammerzell said.

My 2 c's:
Locals will beat the taxes by purchasing on the streets, just as before/now. Out of state tourists will be the ones paying the 40% tax.
More power to em, I will vote yes on the tax.

Here's a Crown Penny back. Taxes pay for enforcement against those that upset the cash cow. Take Nashville and the Green Belt. Reportedly the most self contained home grown market East of the Sierras. It would be very interesting there. Would the pot economy surface? No way.

But, some outlets from outside could open and those taxes pour into policing the Belt. We can see CO, going big time with inventory controls and tags.

All about the ancient circle. You pay into the Political system for protection. The ones that become the new Fat Cats, are the ones that have to pay through the nose in contributions, host fundraisers, owe secret favors, hide the bodies, etc.

The little guy is getting plowed under in CO, in favor of the Big Donors in the Big Tax bases.
