whats my ideal lighting situation on a 8' x 5' (40sq f) aeroponic grow system, i was thinking 6/ 600w HPS, hortilux bulbs, the works, what do the good people at RIU thunk?

do you think 1000's are better than 600's? you cant get the 1000's as close as you can get the 600's? thanks for the replies by the way

also what do you mean by multiple sources of light?

and p.s your math is a little off,

6x(9) = 54 sqft
3x(16) = 58 sqft

..... 3x16=48*

its hard to say
8'x5' can do a bit over 160 plants i believe, no?(if its one complete table) that's alot of mouths to feed lol
with that said instead of optimizing the potential lighting to the size of the grow,
rather optimize it towards the type of grow u wanna do.

3 1000's would be less efficient imo, considering the type of the setup (s.o.g). 1000's can penetrate foliage deeper than a 600 and technically pump out more lumens but considering you cant have them as close as 600 you will never utilize all those lumens,
with 600's you also get more lumens per watt making them more efficient,which leads me the phrase less is more lol
the only upside in the 1000w scenario would be less total wattage

3x1000w=3000w = 435, 000 lumens total
6x600w=3600w = 540,000 lumens total

400w HPS: 50K lumens (125 lumens per watt)
600W HPS:90K lumens (150 lumens per watt)
1000W HPS: 145K lumens (145 lumens per watt.)

getting easier to see the better choice eh lol
6, 600 watt'ers would be the way to go, no they don't penetrate as deep but thats not as important in s.o.g as your only growing the tops, the total lumen output to the plants is more important. also you can drop your lights closer in-turn letting your plants receive more lumens. heat may be an issue though.. but as long as you get cool tubes with strong enough exhaust for your lights you'll be fine. apparently cool tubes are the best, even better than air cooled hoods.
hope this will help you decide
(keep checking in on my link ill be starting my grow soon, and probably start a grow journal as well..
later days

Hey jin, thanks for the reply + rep, the 8'x5' is designed to hold 60 plants. i will be growing SoG so i think 6/ 600's will be optimal as far as i know, but what i know could fit on a dime compared to some of you guys lololol

Multiple sources of light mean light from many angles. Meaning less shaded leaves overall.

A few blunts deep my math is fuzzy I went to edit it but It never worked.

going with 600s will have a higher initial investment cost...thats the tradeoff

growing for gold is right. inital investment will be alot. the 600's soon to be on the way is costing 214.78, complete w/ cooltube, bulb and convertible ballast. so 6 of em would cost u
1288.68 before shipping. but of coure usally when you spend that much they pay for your shipping. i imagine i could find 1000 w for roughly around the same price , you'd pay 700 at max for 3 of em.

You know, from my perspective if i have to invest a little more to give my babies exactly what they need i think by the end of the day it'll be money in the bank. I certainly like the idea of less money out of pocket but whats more is i like the idea of having a banging ass garden hahaha. Ive been looking at a 8 tray Aerojet system. If anyone is familiar or has an reference on it specific to the topic at hand i would appreciate it much.. peace and love my peoples
