4 plants in 5gl buckets or 9 plants in 3gl buckets?

I have 9 plants right now which are a week away from flowering. I was planning on using 5 gl buckets this time around, but I wont have room for all 9 in 5 gallon buckets. I might have room for all 9 in 3 gallon buckets though.

I only have one 600w hps, and I am not going to be adding any other lights.

They have been vegging for about a month and are approximately 12 inches tall. And all have been topped.

Would I get a better yeild with 4 plants in 5gl buckets since there would be less competition for light, or all 9 in smaller buckets and run the risk of them not receiving enough light?

The plants I have going are 3 NL, 3 Black Afghani, and 3 Pink Kush

my opinion would be to use the three gal and grow them all is this the best answer maybe not i just cant cut a perfectly good plant , you already sex these plants

well that totally depends on how big you want them, with more plants in smaller pots you would have more main stems closer together giving you more big buds, however if you want to grow bigger plants then i think you will yield more at the expense of a few weeks more in veg but that will be tough as you will have to crowd the plants together nice and tight so they all can get light, or better yet rotate them every few days to equal the light out with them

whats the dimensions of your grow room? i wouldnt worry about them fighting for light as a 600w hps should b enough to penetrate deep into the canopy. i have seen situations where there were 15 plants in a 3x8ft space with a 1000w hps and they did just fine. i would think the result of a slightly smaller yield on 9 plants would be more then the normal yield of only 4 plants. just my 2 cents though good luck homie

The grow room is about 3.5ft by 3 ft with an 8 foot ceiling.

I cant veg any longer since I'm moving mid may and need them to be done before then. I'm starting flowering at the end of the week.

My last grow with 3 Pink kush and 1 NL in 3 gl buckets yielded about 2oz per plant, and I'm using the same setup.

And yes all the plants are female since they were clones, except for the three pink kush whose seeds came from a hermie so hopefully those will be females too.

I don't have the heart to kill the females, and don't know any other growers in the area so I might have to just grow them out.

go with less plants..i got 5 under my 600watt and my boy just got one under his 600watt and he's yielding more then me and we use the same nutes and same strains

go with the 9 plants dont worry about size. look at the size of the pots i used and how big i got em.

coo thats pretty nice but imagine if one plant was under that light..u would probably yield more

4sure u would yield more and thats what the guys asking how to get more yield..i say 3galloon buckets less plants but more light for them=higher yields

i dont know if i could of got any more. thats a 1000 w hps withe the 30% blue spectrum. room is like a 4 by 6 foot area

in a 4x4 space im trying to fit 16 3 gallon pots. my plants are growing a lot like single cloa so we will see, at worst I may have to give some away, but that is cool cuz I can keep the best ones.

4sure u would yield more with less plants cuz there ganna get more light and lumens that way just veg em a lil longer maybe

i got 4 of them in there. im thinkin 8 oz maybe. maybe more.

Yea I'm going to grow all of them out I decided. My yield last time with 4 plants was about 8 oz. I figure worst case scenario I yield 1 oz per plant that will still be 9 oz.

Hey scapey d, what size pots were in the pictures you posted? Yield?

be sure to watch that one. i can almost bet it will start female and herm on you about week 5-6 of flower... just be careful it doesn't taint your ladies

Yea I plan on keeping a close eye. Thats what happened to the plant the seeds came from, but it only produced like 15 seeds from the whole plant and the buds were still really chronic. I think it turned hermie from all the stress it experienced early in life.

is the higher yield on only 4 plants going to be more then the normal yield of 9 plants.. i think 9 plants would deff yield more, its not that drastic of condition changes, its only space, and container size, both wont have a big impact on how much the plants will yield, as long as he has a good light, temps, soil, air, then theres not much more u can do. 9 plants FTW

Yea I agree, last grow I grew in the same setup with just 4 plants and got 2oz per plant. So worst case scenario I only get 1oz per plant this time around, it will still be a decent yield.

i have 13 plants in flower under a 400 hps with a 100 hps for side light, i rotate em all the time and they are in 5 gallon buckets and seem to be doing fine
they dont seem to be suffering from being packed in there. and now that ive seen scabey ds fucking amazing ass grow im dropping to 2.5 gallon bags so i can fit more in. i have 13 in flower and another 45 under some floros. i was ready to kill some untill i saw what scabey did in those containers. now im leaving em in the bags and im gonna flower 20 immidiately and im gonna veg the other 25 for a while, and toss em in to flower in groups of 10
