I have a 4 pin 12vDC pc fan, it has red, black, yell and blue wires. Can I just connect red and black to a 12v ac cell phone charger wire or do I have to do something with the other two wires?

In case you haven't already tried, and figured it out.... yeah, the red and black are usually the two you'll need to wire up to power the fan. Yellow is to sense speed, and blue is to control it (by the computer).

Once again though, look at what the output of the cell charger is. My charger on my current phone only puts out 5V DC .7A, which might be enough to power one fan, very slowly if at all since the voltage is so low, and only if the fan needs less than .7A (700mA). On a fan such as that 4-wire one, 12V might be required or strongly recommended since there is a separate wire for controlling it. Usually, on more common 3-wire fans, the computer controls the speed by varying the voltage to the fan.

You want 12V DC out, and 1 or 2A is best if you're running one or more fans. If you don't know what the fan is rated at, better to overcompensate the amps and make sure the adapter puts out at least 1A (1000mA) for each fan you wire to it. ;)

When dealing with DC power in a situation like this, and in general, you'll likely be able to hook it up this way and that without damaging anything, so trial and error will show you which two wires to use. Just don't ever hook up an adapter with 12V AC to a DC device by mistake, that will ruin your weekend.
