I finally got my new grow box. Its a Clonebox by Homebox. The dimensions are approximately 4' tall by 4' wide by 2' deep. I have a 400 watt hps with cool tube to go in it. What size fan would you recommend? 4" or 6"? I plan on getting something powerful. Vortex or similar type. Also if anyone has any recommendations on a somewhat quiet fan that would be appreciated also.

speaking from personal experience, since the diameter of the cooltube is 6'', i would go with a six inch. reason being, if you have to use 4'' to 6'' adapters, this disrupts your airflow in a negative way and that isn't very efficient that being said, you might want to consider getting a speed control unit for the fan. a vortex will move a lot of air which will cave in the sides of your unit. a speed control unit can usually be had for $20 bucks or so and aren't that hard to wire.

Thats what I was considering was the 6" with speed controller. The only thing is a friend of mine has a speed controller and it actually makes the fan louder. It causes a sort of humming sound. Thanks for the advice.:blsmoke:

go six inch to cool the hood, trust me i went 4 and regret it. i ENDED up adding a 6'' 24 '' long PHAT filter which runs totally independent in my room on a 6'' inline eco fan that scrubs the air and removes heat from the room, vents to attic. If i would have went 6 inches to begin w i could have cooled the hood alone, and scrubbed the air in the room w the phat filter w/out venting it.

Looks like 6" it will be then. Thanks for the advice guys. Now does anyone have a recommendation on a fan that is quiet? I know these inline fans are pretty loud and this box is just sitting in my bedroom so I want something not too loud.

I have a brand new 8 inch S&P (quiter than vortex and elicent) 500cfm, that i need to get rid of(downgrading to a 150hps for stealth reasons, this was for my 400w cool tube) PM me for pics if intrested. Oh and i also have a speedster fan controll i could through in with it.

suncourt centrax. the housing is made of plastic, so you don't have to worry about harmonic vibration. the 6'' model moves around 409cfm

8" is a little bigger than I was wanting. Appreciate the offer though. I will look into that brand though. Would you think the sound would be abnormal in a bedroom? I keep another fan running just to keep me cool at night so this would drown out the sound a little.
