3x3x6 Tent setup, Does this work good?

Hi guys,

First of all, thank you for reading and taking the time to help me with my setup. Second, here is the setup I am looking at. I have a walk in closet in my master bedroom and I would like to put a tent in there. So, I bought a 3x3x6 Vivosun tent and I am thinking about buying two of these lights, the Viavolt 150 hps lights with ballast integrated. I added a link below. The reason I like these lights is because I can replace them extremely easy (free of charge) if anything happens to them within in the first two years. Also, I already have a 450w (The manufacturer claims 450w but output was like 220w i believe) led cobb light that I can put in the tent as well if I feel there needs to be more light. I put a link for that cobb light under the first link as well. Lastly, I purchased an exhaust fan along with a carbon filter, which I included a link to as well. Anyway, I plan to run the lights at night when the temp are about 60 to 65 degrees (without the lights on) in my house, and then shut them off during the day when the average temp is about 70 to 75. The exhaust will go out out the tent and into the attic. Also, the exhaust fan will be in the closet but outside the tent. What do you guys think? Is this setup too much? Not enough? Average?? Please let me know any questions and/or concerns. You guys and gals rock!

personally I would go with a 600 but that's me overkill yes.
I have a 600 watt Hydro crunch air cooled hood, ballast in another area and have tried to put it in a 3x3x6 tent with a larger exhaust even. However, the temps would get as high as 90 degrees at times. But the harvest was nice, did get a little burn on some tips

that will happen for sure thing is now im growing in a 4x8x7 I got two hlg 550s one rspec, and I added a 600 watt hps and my plants love the light intensity and im still sitting at 73 for days and 68 for nights

I use a 600 HID in each of my 4×4×6.5 and never have a problem with heat except for July and August.

Edit: and that's with no cool hood I just have one small fan on the floor pointing straight up which does allow me to get the lights closer to the canopy.

You will mold out your attic if you vent into it

Vent outside, you can cut a hole in the roof n add a passive attic vent , n fab up a connection to vent through, (not ideal as it will melt the snow around it in the winter , if u get snow)
Or setup a chimney (garage heater style)

I really like 315cmh for 3x3 footprint

Heck ya bro. Sounds good to me, I will have to play around and see

Heck ya man, the 600w HID did not work in the tent so I ended up putting it in my insulated shed along with another 600w and I run it at night and it works great. I just did not wanna overkill my 3x3x6 and I want the tent running the whole year including the months of July and August. Makes sense, that even your bigger room gets too hot to run during July and August. My shed too, is out of service during those months as well which is why I want to go a little smaller with my small tent by using the 300watt HPS and the 450watt led. I felt I would be able to maintain the temperatures throughout the whole year.

Hey BigHorn,

What if I have 6 attic vents? Can I run the ducting from the fan into the attic and have it placed right at the vent so that it exhausts outside? Does that make sense? Thank you for your knowledge and help

You’ll have the same problem, the venting air will try to create an equilibrium in the attic before leaving . You would need a dehumidifier in there .
Need to get the air outside not “staged” in the attic before leaving .
Just take a bending 90 (duct) n mount it to the vent .bend some tabs, Screw n glue .

I’m kinda banged up right now, if I can make it into my attic soon, I’ll take some pics .
(Right leg isn’t working ATM)

BigHorn, I just took some pics to show you what I am working with. I will post them when I get to work. I would love to here your thoughts after seeing the pics. Again, thank you

What do you mean when you say the exhaust will be outside the tent?
You mean the filter will be inside tent and the exhaust outside?

two of those lights plus your 200w LED = 500w and $160 dollars later... Just look for a good deal on a 315cmh
I saw someone post one for not much more than that a few weeks ago.
Then you have a nicer light built for the space and a lot less heat and electricity used.

This is what I meant. I will have the lights inside the grow tent along with fans and a carbon filter. The carbon filter will be inside the tent but the exhaust fan will be sucking from just outside the tent. It will be located in the upper part of the closet, possibly even mounted to the ceiling or sitting on that shelf. From there, I plan to cut a hole in the ceiling and run the exhaust into the attic and out that attic vent using ducting. So the exhaust ducting would go from the carbon filter to the fan and then from the fan directly to the attic vent which goes outside. That is a total of 8 feet of ducting. What you think ??? I will for sure consider that 315 cmh light:)
