3rd Grow - Unknown strain - soil - starting from week 2 flower

So i decided later on to create a grow journal. I'm going to start this at week 2 of flower.

These plants are clones about 1 1/2 months old. LST'd heavily while they were young, and as a result i now have this beautiful somewhat even canopy (not as even as i'd liked, but still 10x better than letting it grow straight up).

I'm pushing it with these 4 plants because i only have one 600watt hps light. I should have started flowering much earlier but it doesnt really matter because all of the buds which arent thick and full enough to be smoked will be perfect for making honey oil.

My only concern other than a very mild over fert is the yellowing/lime green color of the new growth. After much searching, my strongest suspicion is the fact that my temps are dropping too much at night. My other suspicion was nutrient lockout from slight overfert.

After keeping temps closer together, it has started to improve. I'll post new pics tomorrow since they are in week 3 now.

Flowering Day 25

Whenever i look at them, i always wonder how much they are going to yeild. I honestly have no idea. I never weighed my last lots, and they were ages ago. I did alot more lst and topping this time - there are about 30-40 heads getting prime light. I hope they get fatter. Might try molasses this grow starting next water.

Flowering Day 31. Thats 4 weeks and 3 days.

Going pretty well. Used 1tsp of molasses 3 days ago in 6 liters of water. Maybe a little too small but i feel it is not a smart idea to be gambling this far into flower. Next water ill skip the regular nutes and just use molasses again (maybe with a few drops of potash) because i really dont want to overfert again. They still bear the scars at the tips of their leaves from my over zealous nutes on the feed before last.

I'm curious as to how fat these buds are going to get, and how long this plant will take to finish and more importantly how much it will all weigh. Probably a shitload more than if i hadn't lst and topped the shit out of it as it was veging. I now have at least 30 colas who's tops are getting prime light. The pics don't show them all. I was thinking about throwing another 600 watt light in there, but am a little concerned about electricity usage especially given that i've also got a heater running in there (pretty cold here at the moment). Whatever is too small or whispy to smoke will just go towards the oil brew so it doesnt really matter.

Installed the carbon filter on saturday. The only other thing i need now is a temperature controller because i want to keep the temps at 26c day and night.

This bad boy will make a fine addition to my grow room. No more worrying about temperatures anymore.

http://www.melbhydro.com/grow-lush-thermal-controller.html

I'm at the stage now where if i did get busted, i'd be more upset about losing all my equipment than the "criminal" conviction.

If i do get busted with my small 600 watt grow, ill be sure to point out to the cops (and the judge) that getting busted doesn't stop anyone (sure as hell not me) from smoking pot. All it does is ensure that gangs and commercial dealers will be getting extra business. Good job guys, you're doing a real service to the community alright busting those small time private growers. What a travesty... and a complete and utter waste of police/court resources.

Smoking pot (and growing it to save money) does not cause us to cease being functioning members of society. We still have jobs, families, pay taxes. We're just as good a person as anyone else. I wish governments would actually think about it rather than automatically lumping us together with the likes of crack heads and pill addicts. Ask any cop or any emergency room physician which causes them more headaches out of alcohol or pot.

I think its worth mentioning something in light of this post i made a while ago just after i switched to 12/12;
https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/326087-first-week-flowering-still-plagued.html

I kinda abandoned the search still not knowing for sure what caused the yellowing (which was there for most of the veg cycle - but never really got much worse and did not appear to slow growth to any large degree). I completely and utterly refuse to accept the claim that this is normal. After extensive searching, i was pretty much able to rule out all possible deficiencies/toxicities (i was already skeptical about it being a nute problem because i was using the same nutes i'd used in successful grows in the past). Sulphur def was the closest match, but it just wasn't quite matching the symptoms (and epsom salts did nothing to fix the problem).

As you can see from the recent flowering pics, the problem is gone. Now there are only 2 things that have changed;
1) They were switched to flower.
2) I raised my night temperatures from 16c at its coldest to 21c at its coldest.

It is possible that simply switching to flower resolved the problem for reasons unknown to me. Maybe due to different chemical reactions happening in the plant or something along those lines. Fuck knows.

The other possibility is the temperature one. It may even be a combination of both. I would have loved to have been able to do some tests but i only have one grow room and i'm sick of buying pot and want to hurry up and harvest.

The reason i suspect temperature played a role in this is because i came across this page and finally found a picture of a plant which had the same symptoms;
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688

I have attached the picture so that i dont have to worry about broken links in the future. The description associated with the picture was;

This picture is caused by temprature changing from cold to warm, cold nights and warm days.
Some varieties, like equatorial sativas, don't take well to cold weather. If you can keep the roots warmer, the plant will be able to take cooler temps than it otherwise could.

Now, i have absolutely no idea what strain i'm growing - so it may be one of those strains that are highly temp-sensitive. The fact that the problem went away after i changed the temperatures is consistent with this problem. The only problem as far as diagnosis goes is that i also switched to flower around the same time, so i'll never really know whether it was one or the other or both which fixed it until next time around.

Still, good information for myself for future reference or for others with this problem.

Flowering Day 35

I'm hoping the lower buds shown in the first pic get a bit bigger because there are a shitload of them.

6 Weeks Exactly.

I've got to say, i am pretty disappointed with the lack of bud development below the canopy. As shown in the 3rd pic - other than the main heads, the lower buds just arent big. They aren't filling out to hide the stem giving the impression of one big massive bud. None of the heads are even really anything to brag about.

Fucked if i know what im doing wrong. Maybe nutes are the problem.

Thanks. I think i burned them a bit with the radiant heat from the lights. Started showing the signs at 6 weeks.

Next time around, ill have a fan blowing directly down onto the canopy so that i can keep the light close without burning.

what are you using for magnification to check the trichomes?

Was just a cheap USB microscope thing. I'd go into more detail about what it is and where i got it, but i'm in new zealand, so nothing is the same here as it is where you are.

Yield was 10 ounces almost exactly. That was not including all the shitty little buds that got thrown into the oil/hash brew pile.

This time i am going to use a 1000 watt light instead of the 600.

My nighttime temp gets down to 65f also and go's up to 78f lights on. I'm thinking it is the big difference in temperature swings from day and night. I will try to put a digital heater in my room to keep the night temp up to 69 like you did.

Hi. I have had major problems with light bleaching, way worse than your yellowing, and I know it was from over feeding. It can cause photosensitivity.

6 Weeks Exactly.

First off, your plants look pretty amazing to me. I too did a lot of LST in veg, plus a lot of defoliation. At day 30 my bud tops are smaller, but there is more bud development down the stems. As I was looking at your photos, at first I though, he should have defoliated more, then I saw the bud development and thought, fuck, I defoliated way too much! Ha! Maybe somewhere in the middle is where it’s at. Anyway, great looking grow man.

Edit * shit, I didn’t realize this thread is 3 years old. *

its abit old, but i think these yellow tips during stretch are normal ..
probably synonymous of fast growth rate and maybe change in hormone production

This was a dope read, I think the new yellowing growth is synonymous with fast growth. I begged my snrs for 1 week and switched to flower. I'm in day 5 and the plants are looking healthy going to change my reservoir now on the DWC
