If it's already taller than need for your setup then absolutely go for it. Sounds like exactly what you need, if it works. I get what people are saying about not losing time, but it doesn't sound like you need to worry about that. My only concern would be stressing it, but it could be that 36 hours of darkness is hardly anymore stressful than putting her into flowering. Plus if you're worrried about males, you'll get to them that much faster. Also, if you GAIN ten days of flowering by not having to wait through 12/12 you may come out on top in the end! Perhaps the plant thinks it's a solar eclipse!
I'd be curious to hear from anyone who does both and what they've observed. Maybe 36 hours of darkness will catch on and become a sticky called 36 h.o.d?
