This is how I make my butter for cooking when using a concentrate as the starting point. It could be kief, rosin, bubble hash, bho, QWISO... basically any concentrate will work.
Materials List
Ingredients
Here we go, I am using 35 grams of mixed strain BHO that was run from larf nugs and vacuum purged for 2 days. It was frozen on parchment so I can get it to come off easily as it's a little bit sticky at room temp.
I am planning to make nestle toll house chocolate chip cookies with the butter. This is basically clarified butter so it can be used in many recipes, one that I like is swedish meatballs. If it's too strong just use some normal butter with this to cut the potency or use less concentrate.
So 35 grams of BHO along with 2 cups of butter go in the pan, yeah I could have heated the butter first and then added the BHO, that would be protocol but I wanted to get the frozen shatter off the parchment paper without it sticking so I opted for a cold pan so the heat wouldn't cause stickage.
I simmered at about 250F for 18 minutes while mixing constantly with a candy thermometer and watching the temperature in order to decarboxylate the THCA into THC. Once you get it up to 250 you can generally turn the heat down and lifting the pan off the stove at times if the heat starts to rise. Do NOT let the candy thermometer tip touch the metal pan, just the oil.
The room now smells like hash oil I then hot filter through cheese cloth / funnel into a pyrex dish sitting in a cold water bath to stop the decarboxylation process leaving just a little to be done when cooking with the butter later.
I threw the good old decarb curve image in there for a reference. The decarboxylation (decarb) process is key to potency as THCA can't pass through the blood brain barrier. Everyone has has those brownies someone made with a substantial amount of weed but nobody got high. Well they probably failed to adequately decarb the THCA into THC.
Once the butter is room temp you can use it in your favorite recipe! I will make cookies.
The medicated butter may be frozen at 0 degrees F for up to 6 months or -20F for 9 months.
May save that for tomorrow night, depends on how I feel later.
Other Oils
One can do the same process with coconut oil instead of butter. This can be used for cooking and as a massage lotion / salve. It can be mixed with other essential oils as well. If you won't be cooking or heating the oil anymore you should decarb for a few more minutes.
One can use vegetable oil instead of butter and use that in recipes like brownies and whatnot but whenever you can you should use butter as it helps you metabolize the THC making it kick in quicker and stronger.
One can use olive oil and coat your noodles for a strong plate of spaghetti or potent pesto!
I hope this was informative, now go make your medicated products!
