300w CFL Mini Fridge Grow, DWC Hydro, Scrog Method, 2x Autoflower Plants

1st Time grower, long time enthusiast, I've recently begun to put together the means to have an amazing, high yielding, fast turn over, personal grow op.

After much research I've come to the conclusion that Hydroponics is one of the fastest methods of growing marijuana, and further more, Deep Water Culture is known to be a very high yielding type of hydro system, and can be very compact, requiring only an air pump and a drain. I figured this would be perfect for my grow.

More research lead me to discover that most grows use bulbs like HPS, or Sodium. However, these kinds of bulbs produce far too much heat for a compact stealth grow. Upon further digging I found most small grows use many High Wattage CFLs. This is what I have decided to use.

If we're talking about strains, I have discovered a vey special kind of seeds. Autoflower seeds are know for almost completely skipping their vegetative stage and begin their flowering stage automatically. In edition, they are know to be more compact in size, but retain the ability to grow enormous buds with the right system and care. Autoflowers also have a shorter overall lifespan, amounting on average to about 80 days only from seed to harvest. This seems like an amazing fit for my set up.

Finally, I discovered the Screen Of Green Method. This method allows for very compact grows, allowing for the buds of the plant to acquire as much light as possible by forcing them to grow upwards horizontally through the screen, allowing for maximum space management. I had found the last piece of the puzzle for the perfect personal stealth grow...

_-( THE GROW )-_

Mini Fridge with 3x3 cubic feet on the inside, gutted and converted to fit the following:

-4x 65w CFLs, with 2x 20w CFLs (orange) 18,000+ Total Lumens, applied in a PVC grow fixture that slides perfectly into the top rack.

-25gal DWC Reservoir, with two air stone Pump, and drain valve.

-2x 3gal Mesh Pots, with Rockwool.

-PVC Scrog screen with 2x2 inch spaces to accomidate plants. Also slides in perfectly into fridge rack.

-35w Electric Ventilation Fan, with attached DIY Carbon Filter. Completely regulates temperature and air flow in grow space.

The fridge itself is completely lined with foil reflective tape to insulate heat, and maximize reflected light in the contained space. All the edges and cut out spaces are sealed air tight with Kwik Seal Waterproof Sealant. The only inlet for air into the space is through several small holes drilled into the bottom of the fridge door. The holes are covered with a piece of black fabric and sealed on the edges to allow only clean air in, and keep light or impurities out.

So there is the concept. I just had a few questions for people that have experience with DWC and Autoflowers. How should the nutrients be added, maintained, and flushed in this kind of system? Additinally how are autoflower effected by nutrients, and how should they be administered?

I appreciate any feedback anyone can give me. I will be for sure updating this journal soon with a full length grow!

Thanks for reading. :)

Ps: My GF wants everyone to know she has pierced nipples. No, I will not post pictures.

cant give you much advice about the hydro as im a soil grower. but from what ive read you want to go easy on the nutes until you start seeing preflowers.

im sure someone else on here will give you some advice.

good luck!

I am definitely Subbed for sure. I like this small and stealthy design with a few seedlings growing in there that setup would be very nice in certain circumstances. Have you ran anything in there before or is this the first go around? I am sorry I only read from The Grow down so if I missed anything excuse me.

*Edit* Sorry I did read the first part now and you are a first time grower LOL

Well actually I've decided to change quite a bit, and will be updating a full report of the revised setup.
The short version is I got some sagely advice and care from a friend of mine who does hydro personally and even works at a nearby grow shop. Within the next few days I'll inform you.

Ok, just to update you folks I've decided to change up a ton with this setup. First off, I wont be using autoflower seeds. I've decided to go with an indica clone strain, aka "Northern Lights." Secondly, I'll be using a different resevior, pots, and medium. My clear resevoir cracked easily, and was not the right kind of plastic, so I'll be switching that to a black rubbermaid tub. The net pots I was using were too large, and I've decided to use 2gal net pots instead. As far as the grow medium goes, after some discussion I found rockwool was not going to be suitable for my system, and have decided to switch to hydroton beads.

Lets talk lights. Before I was using 4x 65watt CFLs @61 Lpw.
for my setup that would have been over a wopping 5,500 lumens per sq ft.

After further calculation I found the 42watt @68 lpw. This come out at aprox. 4400 lumens per sq ft.

So I'll be switching to the 42watters.

Also, as a final twist I'll be using mild C02 pellets in a cup of water to supplement the C02 supply to a slightly higher PPM to increase yield. Thats about it kids, I'll be updating soon with pictures when possible.
