3 x 125w red cfl for veg..............is it worth it ? or shud i just get a hps light

hi ive got 3 x 125w red cfl for veg..............is it worth it ? or shud i just get a hps light and get rid of the red cfls i knw red arnt supposed to be used for veg but its all i have................pleasche help

i used to use cfls but once i was using a few 250s (cfl) it seemed better to go with hps as electricity use was already there. i wouldnt go back to them unless it was just one or something. if it was me id go hps with a duel bulb you know both spectrums so best of both.
id defo use something else for veg though not red cfl ! hope this helps.

no they're for flowering. Get a MH with a 6500 K bulb (pretty hard finding one in the 400 watt range though) for veging and when you flower add the cfls in too.

only thing im worried aboot is those porkchoppers as the hps give off alot of heat

you wont give off much with 1 light mate, i use a 250 and 400 dual, get a 400 and you wont be sorry

Do a Google search for 400-watt 6500K metal halide bulbs and they are easily enough found. Heck, last year I purchased one at my local Lowes when I needed one right away.

I read where people say they are difficult to find but I never have a problem finding them. I think many people just go to 1000 Bulbs.com and HTG Supply and a few other places like then and if they don't see them there they figure they are difficult to find.

The rest of you yanks check it out you'll get 5 times the growth from a 6500 K bulb rather than those standard white they'll sell you at a hydro store.

You are correct about the results of a 6500K MH bulb over the more often found MH bulbs. Most MH bulbs hydro stores seem to sell fall into the 4000K to 4200K range and some even 3200K, though they are not all that often seen. What those types of MH bulbs really are, are full spectrum bulbs that are just slightly more blue in their spectrum. They are the ones used in MH lights that lighting dealers will tell you that you only need MH lighting to grow from seedling through flower.

While the song has a totally different meaning, at times when I see the uber-blue light causing thick lush growth and tight nodal spacing a line of the Etta James song "The Blues Is My Business" comes to mind. I look at the blue light and growth and hear her sing "The blues is my business, and business is good," ........... and I know for sure that the blue light business is damn sure good.

6500K is the way for the best vegetative growth.

hi every one I also had a question I have a 125w cfl plug in grow system from hydrofarm with 3 clones that are looking better then some under the hps? Could this be because with the cfl it can be placed closer then hps and produce less heat? Also using fox farm nutes and soil temp is never below 60 around 65 70 always plus running a 100w fan with a timer I got the clones about last week and there doing great I was thinking for now of buying the 125w cfl warm spec. Any advice would be much helpful thank you.

grow daily, hps isnt the best in veg but when you flower you will see why people use them. STRAIGHT UP ! cfls are next best to mh in my humble opinion while veggin though.
