3 plants- Just some help please

Ok this was started just for fun with some bag seeds

  • I have got two cfls lighting up three plants.
  • Im not really sure how long they have been growing for, and i have been playing around with the lights so the plants are probably not en par with how they are supposed to be by this time.
  • At the moment, i have two CFLs:
      • The first one is 23 watt, produces 1200 lumens of light, and has a color temperature of 5000k
      • The second one is 20 watt, produces 1250 lumens of light, and has a color temperature of 5000k
  • I usually water a plant when the overall moisture of the soil reaches around 3 out of 10 on the moisture meter (1 being the driest)
  • They are running on a 16/8 light cycle
  • The plants are watered with distilled water, and we previously put under half of the recommended plant food into a water container (with distilled water) which I have been using to water the plants.
  • I have a small desk fan running on the same time schedule as the lights.
  • I try to keep temperature at around 80F, but it sometimes fluctuates to 90F

So my question is, will this work. I am not trying to make an impressive grow project, again this is just for fun. This is also my first shot at this and is supposed to be more of a test run so i get familiar with all of the variables that need to be taken into consideration while growing.
So please no bitching or mocking about how crap my set up is, All i want to know is if this will work.

My main problem is trying to figure out if i have enough lumens,

Also this is only temporary, once the plants grow bigger i will have to redesign the setup completely.
I also plan on using CFLs with a lower colour temperature (around 3500K) for flowering.

------------------------

Problems:

  • On my biggest plant, the bottom leaves are turning a lighter color than the rest, what could be the problem?
  • The tips of my leaves sometimes get lighter slightly, would this just be the plant food that i am using?

Thanks allot,
Symphony

Yup that'll work. Its not awesome but it will work ok. Probably better than most 1st attempts lol. But that liquid plant food is not too good. That particular formula is better for flowering not vegging. You want a fert. with a higher nitrogen content. That is probably why you are getting some yellowing.
Keep your CFL's really close to the plants. Like 2 inches or so.
Also, if you have not already, read the GROWFAQ. upper left on screen. it'll really help you out. Good luck & happy growing!

Ok so the only changes are that i added two more 20 watt cfls, with 1250 lumens and a colour temperature of 5000k.

I have also changed the soil and fertilizer that i was using, and the plants are still on the same light cycle.

I also pruned the tops off a couple of days ago.

Peace.
