They aren't carved. They are 'printed'. Meaning that a thin layers of plastic are layered on top of each other just like your printer would print a page. Moving back and forth across what they want to 'print' and in the end they make a 3-D copy of a design in CAD that you would only see on a video screen.

This technology is really cool. They are even making bathing suits out of 3-D printers.

Tone snobs would have a problem the "mish-mash" resonance coming from alot of these designs. Although I do possess a '63/64 Gibson Barney Kissel #9669, there is no guitar worth 3 grand. NONE! Both of my Indonesian made Ibanez S -6/7 string, HH guitars, sanded down to mohagany pores with no finish will saw through any 3 grand+ pOS that are sold nowadays. Sorry, I can talk guitars all fucking day!

I don't know a thing about guitars but these sure are great looking. Hadn't even given the price a second thought or how it would sound.

The technology is so cool and sexy. At the workshop I belong to they have one of these but I haven't screwed around with it yet. I'm definitely going to now.

Yeah, im more amazed at what the technology is capable of now, and future applications. Right now it may be able to produce a fairly kool acoustic guitar. All tho, i know nothing about the material used in the process.

Cool post. That picture reminded me of a Fender Guitar prototype from the mid 90's but they made the body out of aluminum. Not the best tonal qualities but looked freaking cool. Depending on the price, these could be cool art/guitars. (doubt they will be tone monsters but would look great on the wall)

I prefer the vintage instruments but play everything. With guitars, you get what you pay for. IMO

These are just incredibly beautiful guitars. I've seen 3-D printed things but they were always for product mock ups. This is on a whole different level
