you really need a slight separation at the base of pots that air can penetrate. the pests like the dark and wet areas. things like thrips decimate peoples entire grows. (so tiny you need a jewlers loupe) or one little fruit fly will populate the whole pot and start eating on the dead roots your creating with that setup.

My friend just get creative, you don't need money to add airflow throw a buncha leggos or even a big stick you can break into pieces and put between pot and floor. Just make a gap for airflow. If you can't manage it, run a fan at the base.
I use 1x3.9 per 2X2 no problems. If I'm vegging for a long time I use the larger pots.
