2x2x5 Operation

I will soon be growing in my closet in a 2x2x5 grow tent. I plan on growing two plants in 3 gallon pots and scrogging the hell out of them. I have a 4” inline fan with a carbon filter rated at 190 cfm and I am still debating on a light I want to use. I am looking at a 400w dimmable mh/hps or possibly a viparspectra 600w led light. I am trying to move slow and be wise about my decisions because of my limited amount of space and I keep questioning myself. Any strains anyone would recommend for my setup? I still have 3 feminized Cinderella 99 seeds but definitely plan on making another order for some more seeds. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you decide to go HID, I highly recommend (for a 2x2) a 315w CMH. It's brighter and cooler than a 400w MH/HPS

Just my 2 cents..... I think that you could easily fill a 2x2 with 1 plant in a larger pot

Regarding your light, I'd recommend looking into a quantum board setup. Here's a link to one that'd work for your setup.

What's the physical size of those things? Small enough to put two in a 2x2?

I don't know the exact dimensions, but I'm pretty sure two would fit in a 2x2...I have a diy qb setup with 4 boards in a 2x2, and the boards I used are very similar.

My light:



HLG claims one board is sufficient to flower a 2x2 footprint, so that should be enough to get OP off the ground.

What are you expecting for temps in your closet and tent when you get into late veg early flower, say three months from now just as summer approaches? This might help you decide things.

Well see that’s a big reason I’m wanting to stay away from HID. My house stays about the same temperature throughout the year around 69 degrees Fahrenheit but in a closet like mine I could see the temps rising too high if I’m not careful.

How much better would that quantum board do for me? Just showing lower wattage and I realize the viparspectra isn’t a true 600 more like 275 but 135 still quite a bit lower. Is it something with the spectrum and intensity or what? I am not doubting your sugggestions by any means I just am kinda clueless when it comes to LED lighting.

Ya I would go with the Quantum Board. I ran 3 of the 65 watt Quantum boards in a 2x3 and got good results. So I just ordered the 135 watt QB can't wait for it to arrive. Its lower watts but they are very high end LEDs. if heat is an issue those are great, they can be on all day and only be warm to the touch.

They are about 8 x 11. Should def check em out. I have been using one of the 135w for a couple runs now and am impressed. Heres a one I did under it this summer.

It basically comes down to spectrum and efficiency, from my understanding. While it's true that the qb is lower wattage than the Viparspectra, watt for watt you get more from the qb. You could also buy a higher wattage setup from hlg, I was just recommending a similarly priced light...this light would kick major ass in your 2x2:

Here's a video where the guy put the Viparspectra and hlg head to head...this is the results video of a long series, but I'd recommend watching it for his final analysis and opinions.

I believe you all have talked me into the 260w. How hard are these to setup?

I'll find out on Thursday, that's when my 135 watt kit is supposed to arrive. But from reading these forums and looking videos up they look easy as hell to
put together. Hlg even has videos on their website on how to assemble.

I built it with the idea of having enough light to cover a 4x4, but kept the dimensions small enough to fit a 2x2. This way, when I upgrade to a 3x3 or 4x4, all I have to do is rebuild the frame, and not purchase new components.

Congrats, it's a damn good light. You'll be amazed at how decent the temps will be, even in a 2x2 with that cool running board.

Any adjustments you should make to the voltage and current out of box? Obviously would like to be running it lower during seedling stage and adjust higher in vegetative and flowering stages but can you adjust it too high to a point where it would be unsafe? Sorry I am just paranoid I guess.

I'd suggest running it wide open at first, then adjust down as you see fit.

Do you plan on hanging it on yoyos and keeping it like 18"-24" from the canopy, or just mount it at the top of the tent? I'd imagine the answer to that will determine how intense you'll want to run it.

When I built my light, I opted to mount it as high as I could and then adjust intensity via an external potentiometer, but mine runs at 480 watts wide open, so not an apples to apples comparison.
