2nd CFL grow - pics and 2 quick questions

Pics are below, 10 days into flowering, all are female. This is my 2nd grow. The first grow I only used an 18" 15 watt tube flouro over 2 plants until they were about 3 weeks into flowering. Then I ditched the tube and got 8 23 watt cfl's. Those 2 crappy little plants still ended up yielding about 3/4 oz. total. And since they were stretching so badly, I didn't have to worry about space or being able to provide adequate side lighting.

Now I'm using 8 23 watt cfl's, 3 42 watters, and 1 mystery bulb a friend gave me (he said it was some sort of grow light, but I don't really know what it is for sure. It's the non-cfl bulb in the left side of pics). Grow cab is 24"L x 32"W x 48"H. Height won't be an issue.

Here are my questions:

1. Should I trim some of the fan leaves so I can lower some of the lights for better side penetration? There's not enough room now to lower them very much without burning a ton of fan leaves.

2. Or would I be better off trying to find a "foster home" for 1 or 2 of them? I know there's enough room to fit 2 comfortably in the grow cab, maybe 3 . . .

I'm more interested in whatever gives me the biggest yield, not how many plants I can grow. Thanks in advance for any input.

I say start flowering NOW. Or they will be too big. Yes foster home (extra space) would be the best. I don't like trimming of healthy leaves.

great odds none the less. i just put 5 seeds down to germinate and was contemplating the odds... plants are looking good.

Thanks for replies. I just got done searching around a bit more, and have found a lot of growers saying you shouldn't cut healthy fan leaves, even if it's to provide more light to lower bud sites.

I know the leaves are essential for photosynthesis, but I thought maybe (due to my limited growing space) I could trim a few off so light would hit more of the budding areas.

Guess I'll find a new home for 1 or 2, and just let the others grow au naturale.

Thanks again

everything looks tip top to me! do you know what strain they are?
if i had to hazard a guess on your mystery bulb, i'd probably say metal halide. i'm just guessing though!... is it in an e40 fixture?

good luck:weed:

edit: my grow space is also rather crowded, i'm worrying a little about space in the future but i'll just need to see what happens.

if you could find a alternate grow location this would be a good time to experiment with different growing factors.

...but you should switch to "warm" CFLs.
I've been using these from the beginning. They are 2700k or 2800k (can't remember which), and I think that's what I need for flowering. Is that correct?

I didn't even bother with buying a bunch of daylight 6500k bulbs (although most people suggest it for vegging). These grew insanely fast with the flowering bulbs, and I don't have a whole lot of room anyway.

those are the warm ones. thats interesting to know. that is that your plants grew like weeds with the warm lights. I was thinking i could but a hps setup with all the cost of purchasing the cool and warm and light sockets and wire and splitters and yada yada yada.

I'm guessing they're some type of indica. My buddy gave me the seeds from some really good stinky stuff he had. This is the 2nd grow for me. The first turned out awesome, but the yield was low (3/4 oz. from 2 plants) because I didn't give them decent lighting until they were about 3 weeks into flowering.

I don't think it's an e40 fixture (???). I just screwed it into an old incandescent lamp fixture.

You mean the odds that they were female and not male? It is kind of wierd, all the seeds have been female so far, 7 out of 7 (I've got 1 growing outside, but with the weather here in Minnesota, I'm not sure it'll make it to max maturity before I have to pull it. Right now that one has a TON of little popcorn buds).

You must be right, cause they grew fast. I'd like to let them grow more, but they're already in the 10th day of flowering. And I think I'm going to have space issues . . .

It's been fairly warm for September lately, getting down to mid to upper 50's at night and mid to upper 70's during the day. Looks like it's suppose to stay that way for at least another week (according to the weather channel, but my 6 year old nephew can predict the weather about as good as those guys, lol).
