I like this idea, sounds good in theory, but have you ever tried it yourself or know someone who managed to grow this way? Would 2 liter pots really work? What about root bound and stunted growth? Also, 16 pots? Not really sure I can fit this many pots in a 2by2, but I'll try and see, have nothing to lose. And would one plant with one main cola yield an oz in a 2 liter pot? I need some more details about this method, but it sounds good.
Thanks for your time!
I haven't grown a sog, but have grown pretty decent plants in small containers. This one netted 38 grams dry, grown 12-12 from seed in a 16 oz cup.
This one was 27 grams.
People talk about rootbound, but it won't be a problem unless you veg too long. YOU WILL GET TIRED OF WATERING 16 plants in small containers. I like the 2 liter bottles idea - they have a small footprint, but still hold a half gallon of soil or coco.
Another thought is to run a sog in a DWC tote. Get the biggest tote that fits in your 2x2 and run 16 or so 3" netpots. That would save you from having to water once or twice everyday, but you will probably be topping off the reservoir every day.
I have grown a few scrogs and didn't really love it. The plants have to veg for a month or so to fill the screen before flowering and while there are a lot of bud sites, they were smaller and not the easiest flowers to trim. In the end, scrogs take longer to grow and I dont think they will out yield a proper sog.
Give the sog ideas some consideration. If you can pull an ounce per plant x 16 plants, that's a pound in a 2x2. That, my friend, is a heroic amount of bud from that small of a grow area.
No matter what method you use to grow, you will need to get a high yielding strain/phenotype. My current grow is in a little 2x3 cabinet and will yield in excess of a pound this round now that I have selected a great pheno.
