Hello there I am looking for some advice on wether if i bought a 600w hps grow light kit could i replace the 600w bulb with a 250w bulb but still continue to use the 600w ballast? Or would this damage the light and ballast? Just its 20quid cheaper to get a 600w kit on ebay than the cheapest 250w one i have already. Thank you for reading and I hope someone can help.

no you can't. you have to use a bulb rated for the watts of the ballast. running a setup like you mention will just burn bulbs up. some ballasts are dimmable and allow you to run 600/400/250w bulbs all from 1 ballast.

Thank you for your advice you have just saved me from ordering a more or less useless grow light to me lol had to pay the bit extra for a 250w from growell just the standard budget grow light delivered for £85 so I thought it should be ok I would think?

you should be fine. always match the bulb to the wattage of the ballast. good luck man.
