CFL's are the twisty looking energy saving bulbs you can find at any hardware store or at a walmart. You can just put them in regular lamps or check a hardware store and get a fixture that it screws into and has a plug on the other side to just plug in a outlet.
There are several threads all about CFL's on this site. They're cheap to buy and cheap to run and work well for supplemental lighting.
