I got a dr60 tent for $150 off ebay, 2x2x5 feet. Stuck it in the closet, works great. If you are good at building, then I guess you could save a few bucks making your own.

He has more room to work with so for a lot less money he could have something a good bit larger ... and it would be simple to do.

Ok so speaking from my personal experience, the smell WILL become a problem. My first grow was very similar to yours, I had 3 plants under a 250 halide and a 150hps in a 2x3 space. I thought that the smell wouldn't be an issue cause I smoke all the time anyways. Well ya, live growing plants in flower have a smell that really sticks with you and even to the point of annoyance when you can't escape it. When you walked up to my front door the smell would just slap you in the face.

My advice is to buy a scrubber or some gel. There are lots of inexpensive ways to go about smell control, do some research. But if you don't belive me and let the smell build you will only appreciate the scrubber you eventually buy that much more.

Will 5' tall be tall enough, or is that all the room you have to work with. Possibly in your case it is tall enough, but be sure to calculate your maximum usable height with your proposed setup and the system or systems of growing you will use. Just think it through before you build. Unless you have a height restriction you would be better off with 6 inches or a foot more height than you can fully utilize than having 6 inches to a foot less height than you might find yourself needing one day. The difference in cost of materials will be minimal and it would not take any longer to build it a little taller. So unless you cannot go a little taller because of restrictions of where your tent will be or are just positive that another six inches or a foot would never be missed .. at least give some consideration to slightly more height.

and what do u think about just nailing pieces of wood to the walls in the closet and then stapling the pandafilm to the wood and then cock the stapled tips?

would u recommend using all 8' with a 250 hps?
No, I wouldn't, not if you are positive that you will never upgrade your lighting.

But unless you have all the exact dimensions of what will go into the tent, including things like minimal spacing needed between your light and the top of your tent when your light is fully raised, and actual pot height and considered the minimal amount of space you will need to maintain between your light and the top of your plants you might find yourself wishing you had 6 inches or a foot more height in the end. Not to use as in plant height, but just so everything fits comfortably and you can still make the most of the lighting you have. Also you might want to consider the possibility of upgrading your lighting one day. If so you would want more height. It's a very common thing for someone with a 250-watt light to later wish they had at least a 400-watt to use. I've seen it many, many times, so you might want to consider how possible that might be.

If you are more comfortable with the idea of using wood then by all means do it. I just like the idea of PVC because it is light, easy to work with, inexpensive and easier to move or tear down (say like if you moved or just moved your growing area).

But if wood and nails (or screws and a screw gun) is more your thing .. then by all means go for it.

Not to claim I descended from Nostradamus or anything but I tend to believe that by the end of your first or second crop you will want a 400-watt or a 600-watt light. Most people overestimate what a 250-watt is capable of doing and often times are disappointed and end up upgrading. That is why when I suggest HID lighting I always say unless there is some restriction that will always keep someone from using higher wattage, do not purchase less than 400-watts.

If you think there is a fairly good possibility that you will upgrade your lighting, use all the height you have to use for your tent, regardless of what you build it of. You only have to use part of a tall tent but if in the future you find yourself needing more height ... it just will not be there and they don't stretch and you then have to rebuild/replace.

im doin a 4 plant scrog with a 250 watt MH conversion buld for veg and HPS bulb for flower. It definately can be done,im kind of unsure about my conversion buld though, not sure if Hps would be better for now.I've also thrown in some cfl's with umm, bout to make the scrog screen...
