Hey everyone im about ready to start my first grow its in a space of about 2 foot by 2 foot by 6 foot high, would i be best using 250 watts of hid lighting or cfl? the reason being that ventilation is a problem i have ducting but it runs from my wardrobe into my room and heat just tends to keep building up. Do 250 watt hps/mh throw out much heat? any ideas?

I would go CFL. But I am a fan of it. Most people here will tell you to go HID. Or you could get the 250w HID and the throw in some 42watt CFLs in there to give yourself a little more light

I use a 250 watt HPS there is a link in my sig if you wanna check out the results... I would most def recommend HID over CFL regardless of the wattage

with multiple CFL bulbs you could scatter them bulbs around distrobuting the light better. If ventalation and space are issues you should also use CFLs. any HID will cook a plant in a small space.

HID use too muc electricity for my liking compared to CFLs and their other benefits of less heat for 1.

Lol that is hilarious. 250 watts of HID is the as 250 watts of CFLS. 250 watts is the amount of power they use. It doesn't matter what lighting you use, the wattage determines the heat. HID is usually one bulb and CFL's are scattered around. If you air cool HID"s (which most do) temps aren't an issue at all. Wattage is wattage it doesn't matter the light

Hid's have higher lumen output then CFL and also better penetration. You want HID over cfl in almost any case, unless your worried about heat... get some proper ventilation and way to go

Go with the HID. You should be able to run a 250w in that sized room with not that much heat issues. People run 400w HPS in smaller spaces then that (i.e. tent grows). You'll get a better spectrum of light and more lumens per watt. I.E. the same 250w will be brighter on the HID then the CLF. CFL's are great for vegging and pretty good at fruiting. If space and heat aren't a concern of yours then get the HID.

Your room should in theory be high enough (6 feet) for the heat to raise above your plant canopy.
