hey ive heard people leave lights on plants for 24 hours but i feel like the plants would be stressed if they dont get some rest. do you only leave the light on 24/0 if theyre clones? or can i do it with sprouts too or wait until they are older?

I'd go with 18/6 always I have heard same about leaving on for 24hrs.
It's like everything, it needs some chill time do you leave in darkness for 36hrs before flipping to12/12 I do this every time to frenzy them, then drop them after been left in 12-24hrs of darkness as this apparently is better.
Am also new here and still learning.

Imho,

24/0 for young clones, at least for me.

24/0 during veg is a different story, photoperiod canna doesn't need an absence of light to shut down its foliage, and if your running low to medium light levels then it might not ever shut down because it can heal itself faster than the light can damage it, in this situation 24/0 usually shows faster growth compared to 18/6.

24/0 with high light levels might send your plant into a droop like mid day depression, mid day depression is a response to drought or an accumulation of sugars in the leaves, at this point you are wasting money on electricity.

My take on this,
If your running low light levels or cfl etc, you could try experimenting with 24/0 or 20/0 if you really wanted to, other than that i wouldn't even bother.

Yeah they are what they are unless you buy feminised seeds it's pot luck there are ways to force them to be one or the other but this is beyond my knowledge throw the question out there, there are many good people on this site that can help you with this.
Happy growing.

no, only stress to the plants and eratic light scheduals will turn your plants to produce male flower parts.
keep the lights on the same amount of time each day and at the same time each day and you should be ok. you only need worry about bad genetics then

so i shouldnt get any males if i do it right? even if they are random seeds? or should i still expect them to be what they are?

no, you will get a certain number of males no matter what you do with random bag seed. the only way to avoid it has allready been mentioned, buying femanized seed will be the only way you can garantee 100% females

I’ve ran 24/0 and 18/6. Didn’t notice and difference in growth to justify the 6hr a day extra hydro.

As for your seeds. If the bud was polinated buy a male plant then the will be a mix male/female. If the plant went hermie. The seeds should be all female.

hermie plants only make females? i did grow them outside and they grew seeds and i dont know much about cloning and stuff like that but im not sure if that means its hermie. does hermie mean it stressed? vs just getting pollinated

Do not leave lights on 24hrs.
It will thin the cell walls of the plant making them more permeable to disease. New clones / rooting clones can be 20/4 I’d never go more than that. It’s unnecessary and harmful if anything..

Im a firm believer in sex being what it is from the seed, you can't change it no matter what ed Rosenthal said, if you stress them enough they might grow male parts, good genetics will handle stress better than unstable/mutant genetics.
