21 days old & stinks like crazy--what works to get rid of smell?

Stealth grow in jeopardy of discovery--HELP! My babies are only 3 weeks old but have already developed a strong case of skunk breath. I have a fish tank air pump that I use to exhaust my 22"X5'X8' "closet" grow area that I can't even let the wife know about. I actually built an entire addition (workshop) specifically to build a hidden grow room. I drilled a 2" hole in the floor to bring in cooler fresh air from crawl space. I have it on 6 hours a day but my kids are still smelling skunky. The seeds were from good seedbag green-bud. The odor is actually pretty good to me, but others won't be so pleased. What can I do to remove the odor quietly. I've been told to get something that comes in a tub that you just open the container and it does the work for you. Any input?:blsmoke:

Welcome to my little thread Jungleman . I did buy some "Ona" gel. I bought a small jar to see if it would work. At first it was a very very strong, but clean odor and I thought "too much odor!" Then I read the directions (yes, a guy reading directions:roll:--LOL:lol:, it said to poke holes in the top to--a) make it last longer--b) to cut down on the overall odor. All I did was lay the top on the jar and left just a little slit opening so the odor killer could come out and then I put a fan blowing over the top of the jar. In a nut shell, it is now working very well and the odor is a clean smell coming from my "workshop". No filter needed at this time, but I think I may have to go that route when I put the girls into flowering stage bongsmilie;-). The seeds I'm using are from very good green bagseed, so I can't say what strain. All I know is it was a good buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:sleep:....ooops sorry, went to dream land for a second there :lol::lol:...LOL

Sounds like a great idea, TribalTrig. Where'd you get it and how much was it? I hate being a penny pincher and always asking the price, but times are a little tough selling cars right now . Every dollar makes a difference. And the idea of a fragrance to imitate the ordinary is brilliant . Good job TribalTrig, as usual, you rock.
admitedly not the cheapest of options, ie i would only get one if the main objective is to reduce the noise of your fans exhaust.

heres a link to one Duct Muffler from Growco Indoor Garden Supply

as for the fragrance oil, can be found in most garden centers, gift shops. or ebay. literally pour one small bottle inside the muffler once a week so that it soaks into the cloth on the sides, obviously have the muffler horizontal when doing this, otherwise ull end up pouring it into the fan.

alternatively these sound pretty good.. uses ultraviolet light instead of negative ion which would leave more of a neutral smell instead of the distinctive ion smell we was talking about earlier Uvonair Ultraviolet Ozonators from 4 hydroponics.com by Growco Indoor Garden Supply

Well now, that Uvonair Ultraviolet Ozonator sounds like a winner too. If I get what I want out of this batch, and I save up enough cash (gotta sell more iron), if the odor problem is much worse than expected in flowering stage, I will look into that option.;-):bigjoint: Thanks again TribalTrig, another good idea.

Have you considered growing a non-skunk strain next time? There are plenty of low odor strains. Seems like a cheaper, easier solution than going all in for filtration systems unless you just can't vision your life without skunk. :joint:

well if you're serious about keeping the grow room, you're gonna have to invest in some dryer hose and a decent pump and vent it to the outside.

Well, Thank You, Tonado :peace: :joint::joint:--There, those are for you, 'cause you only have one left :-? and you gave it to me  . That is a good idea for next time though. I probably should have said it was from a bag of green bud. So I'm not sure of the strain. This being my first grow, I thought I'd go with bagseed instead of buying something just in case it doesn't work out  . As it looks so far, I may be buying something for next grow. Do you have a suggestion as to which strain to go with for low odor?:peace:bongsmilie:bigjoint::weed:

I am growing Chronic from Serious Seeds, and find it as low in odour as any strain I have encountered. Smell from the grow room isn't a problem with it. even at full maturity it is low odour , developing an aroma during curing. All round nice smoke too, smooth , tasty , and potent. I would reccomend it.

I went to their site and they say they don't ship to any country where Ganja :leaf: is illegal. With the input you've given so far, I bet you have a way around this little snag :o (and I don't have the patience to find it myself :-P ). And with what you say about it, this "Chronic" is exactly what I'm looking for in my next grow. Thanks in advance jimmyspaz :weed::eyesmoke:

Great info dew-b, thanks. I need to get started on this pretty soon to get everything ready for flowering stage in about 2-3 weeks. I'm going to drop to 12/12 on either the 7th or 13th of June before I go on vacation (away from home) for a week starting the 14th. Should I start 12/12 on the 7th or 13th? I want to be able to see male or female when I get back on the 21st, which day do you think would be better:?:. Flowering, that's when the smell should really get going I'm told :weed:. This is the reason I went with the "Auto-Pot" system with the Coco noir. I can set it up to grow for a week or so without being there. I just have to guess the right height for the lights before I leave. And I will be changing the T5's to red spec as I lower the time of lighting. Next, side bar: When should I top the kids? Is it time now, or should I wait until I go to 12/12? Or should I train them by bending & tying? Thanks in advance.

And yes, I gave you a plus on the rep. Here you go for the help you've given :joint::joint::joint::joint: . Now don't go smoking all that at one time ;-).

Ya mon, glad to hep out. If your like me, you will want to grow every other strain you look at. :hump:

As said, chronic works. Practically any fruit strain will work ie: blueberry, juicy fruit, etc. Let us know what you find out and goooood luck in all your herb-ventures.

Try any of the Canadian seed shops, several of them stock Serious Seeds for resale. The Chronic is fairly expensive but it was a one time purchase.
I paid for 15 seeds , got 22, 16 females, chose the nicest for a mother and am still growing it 2 years later. Keep on growing!!

I have a different problem when it comes to keeping a grow going with cloning. I don't have heat in the workshop so how do I continue grow after winter? Can I save the cuttings or what do you suggest? I plan on doing a second grow with clones before it's too cold this year. But early next spring, I will be doing seeds again, with "Chronic" hopefully. What about those heating pads I've heard about, do they keep it warm enough at 10-20 degrees outside (or colder at times)? Sorry to change the subject on you :?.

Well I use heating mats for cloning, not for room heat. You only have to keep one plant in veg for a mother,24 hour light under CFL's in a closet would do it, you don't need a lot of growth just survival over the winter after all.

You could probably add an incandescent or two, maybe a small tanning bulb, etc. in your grow box over the winder to keep the temps up.

ebay has carbon filters/fans for about 120$, sell some shit you dont need on ebay and buy a carbon filter! cut another 2" hole for exhaust and presto, no skunk smell.

by the way man, blows that your wifey dont smoke, hope you love her, cause that shit would get old for me, my wife puffs!
