2011 Outdoor extravaganza!!!

Next year I want to grow by an old beach. It hasnt been used since The last hurricane. In like 2005 so its abandoned. I found a few great spots but they only get direct sun from 1:00 pm - whenever it gets dark. They get alot of of southern to western sky. I will add pics later on tonight. The strains I will be growing are Jack herer, Solomons skunk (Local strain), and a few landrace sativas. The soil is like 6in of decaying material then mostly clay below that. What is the cheapest way to substitute the existing soil??? Should i go dig soil from another area and fill the holes with it??? Also what is the minimum size hole do you have to dig? Any constructive criticism is appreciated!!! I will PLUS REP every one that has some helpful advice!!!!

If your soil is mostly clay you will have to amend it with perlite and some other amendments to improve aeration in the soil to allow the roots to grow. If the soil is real shitty, then I would just suggest getting 5 gallon buckets and filling them with some high quality soil (Fox Farm's Ocean Forest, Root Organics, or Amazon Bloom are all top quality). Or you could dig holes and use some sort of soil mix like: 30% Native Soil, 30% Perlite, 40% Fox Farm's Ocean Forest (or equivalent). The holes will require more soil and time and energy to be dug, but will give a lot more room so the plants would be bigger than in buckets.


The size of your hole can be one of the biggest determining factors to how big and how much yield your plants get (other main factors: soil, hours of sunlight, nutrients). I would suggest nothing smaller than 2ft cubed (2 ft wide x 2 long x 2 feet deep). I would recommend 3x3x3 for optimal space for the roots to grow. You may think your hole is big enough as is and you don't feel like digging anymore or paying for more amendments, but trust me, its worth it. Once that seed is planted you can't decide a couple weeks later you want to make the hole bigger, so make sure yours is nice a big.

Personally, just plant them in 5 gallon buckets, orrr, fuck that and buy bigger buckets/plant pots, and do that, that way you can control your medium muuuch easier. You might not get the root spread that is always nice and makes for a big plant, but i'd say buckets is the safest way to go, also good if you get some heat on your location, you can pick 'em up and peace.

Id transport some dark potting soil and mix it with the sandy soil half and half maybe. Where abouts do u live, in the south?

I live in Maryland. I cant afford the good soil. I could get some miracle grow but I would rather use some soil from a different location. I would add perlite and vermiculite along with some dolomite lime. What would be good ratio of perlite vermiculite and dolomite lime for 2x2x2 holes?

1- the plot and the number of plants I'm thinking of putting in each spot.
2- 6in decaying matter the rest is clay.
3- The decaying matter.
4-6 panoramic view of sky
7- This years small harvest. 4.20 grams dry. (Going BIG next season!!!)
8- 420 Time!!!! LOL

Will they get adequate sun if they only get south west sun??? 1pm-9pm

I think they will, I mean, its not ideal, but your plants won't suck. buuut, they say morning light is what weed likes the most, but oh well. You should be fine

Will it effect yield??? They will get 7-9 hours of direct sun every day all season long. Im thinking 10-20 clones. I am hoping to get QP outta each plant. Is this possible?

I'd say a quarter p is a bit ambitious, but if its got really good soil, water, nutes, trimming, and its bug free, than you could do that or who knows, maybe more.
Remember, the amount of yield you get is always a result of nature and nurture. The more time you put in the more bud you'll get, and the better you create the enviroment its in the better.

Are there any tips on how to achieve my goal??? I would appreciate any advise that the guerrilla growers on here could provide me with! I will plus repp any one with good tips and advise!!!!

I will have money for nutrients before the next season comes. What would you suggest be the top of the line organic nutrients??

i say you start as soon as possible try to get as many of soil as you can to that location. go maybe a foot and a half deep and a foot wide and fill in with your dirt. plant your babys indoor. have them go for maybe 2 to 3 weeks then move them to their permanent home and let them be till flowering

Yeah, 7-9 hours sunlight is plenty

qp each (and more) is possible with right nutes, hole size, weather, temperature and especially genetics, also the headstart indoors proves crucial to yield,both in minimizing losses to disease/insect/animals and providing a head start with veg.

Lots of factors go into yield, just give em a big hole with lots of good soil (I am making a organic soil mix, fox farms ocean forest, worm castings, kelp meal, perilite, cocofiber, bat guano,chicken manure, micro nutrient blend, steamed bone meal, native soil)

This will get them BIIIGG, check out some 200 gallon smart pot grows with this same mixture (or something quite similiar)

Edit: dont forget dolomite lime if your soil is acidic!! My tap is basic so its not a problem for me, I just water with tap/nutes everynowandthen and it seems to equalize it pretty well, however I highly suggest phing water and soil every time you fertilize or water,check your runoffs too if possible.

Thanks guys! I will be gathering soil all winter. I have already started the seeds. I'm going to make them into mamas. The strains are jack herer, purple skunk, king solomons funk (local strain), and a random seed i got in colorado. I have two different phenos of JH one is a dense nug pheno and the other is more of a sativa/haze. I will be getting some maxibloom and maxigro for the nutes. I also have blood meal and some super bloom. Will a 1.5 x 1 ft hole be sufficient??? I thought it had to be bigger? I will be bringing 1ft clones out on 4/20/11. Will the clones be big enough or too big??

Try Subcools Supersoil Mix, but with the clay in your soil, use sweet lime instead of dolomite, dolomite will harden the soil more than it probably is with the clay you have in it...
