Hey everyone. So in an approximately 12x8x8 room would 3000 watts in adjust a wings work out nice or is it too much? Should i stick with 2k? Running two portable ac's right now unfortunately :[ but i believe it will cool it. Keep in mind i need room to walk around and what not. Thanks for your input

my Vote is go with 2000w easier to cool as a foot print that will more then cover that area and with training and good genetics your looking at a 3/4 pound pull everytime if want to run a 1000 watts in a veg tent as well you will save your self a lot of time and with most plants taking 8-10 weeks to finish the girls vegging under the 1000 watts will be huge! and ready to go in right away once you clear the flower room out all the best with what ever you pick

edit if the room is 12 long... ? then 3000 will work as a 1000 watts foot print will cover 4.5-5

Yeah... 12 x 8 is 96 sq ft. (2) 1K's will not be able to do that. Even (3) 1K's....its gunna be tough.
I'm thinking ( 8 ) 600's is what you need actually.

Problem is that you have a long *and* wide space. a 1000 watter cannot handle the width which means you need 2 rows of lighting.

Depending on what equipment you have, if you decide to go with 1K's, consider condensing your space down to 12 x 4 or 12 x 5

I dont know, a 1k hps could do it provided you only use 5 feet of the 8 feet for growing and you had the light on a mover , your not going to get the yield of 2 k with only one though, I do know that I dont want your electricity bill lol

You need 4 1Ks .........one for each 4x4 space on the 8 foot side with your path down the middle of the 12 foot side....
Imagine this = The 12' is going right to left. So 2 lights in 8x4 - 4' walk way and 2 lights in 8x4....You could safely "steal" a ft on each side if you like and have a 2' walkway..

Paint the walls flat white as with mylar you risk "hot" spots..

Run air cooled hoods or your heat will be way to hard for you to control with open wing fixtures.

If the portables are 12K, they should be able to hold you around 72-77 deg. maybe less, maybe more depending on the quality of insulation of the room....

I use only Tripp Lite portables for growing.....The only other I would even consider would be LG....The main cooling is done by central AC and the portables only fill in and control RH on hot days.......During the winter I pull outdoor air in by thermo switching...

The trick with a little higher temp is really no problem if you keep the RH in the VPD (Vapor Pressure Deficit) optimal running zone for that temp...

8 600's is simply spending too much for equipment....

The room is awkward because one corner instead of being a 90 degree bend has two 45 degreen bends with a window in between the bends. With the adjust a wings i dont have a problem covering the width of the room with only 1 row of 1000s actually, the edge of the canopy is the brightest by far. I do wish the center got more light tho, i still need to play with the wing settings. The aaws throw it all to the sides. I have thought about running two rows but it would be more construction and i feel would be quite cluttered. I really would like to run 3000k but i might just go with 2000k for the first run to try and dial things in. 2000k watts covers 80% of the room with great light no problem. You could honestly pack it full and get everything covered with just less light on the two ends of the room. Im not as concerned with the footprint because i know 3000k would light the entire room wall to wall. Im just wondering if the added electricity cost will be worth the extra watts. All i need to run 3k is another aaw i have everything else. I have 2 extra 8 inch raptors but id rather just go get another aaw and keep it all the same. And one more note. Ive had the raptors in the room before being aircooled with 1000s in each and it was only about 2 degrees cooler than juat having them in adjuat a wings. The extra light i get is worth having to cool the extra 2 degrees. I live in a very hot climate too

Yeah, A sure.....2 lights to cover that is going to do,,,,not enough......A 1K can do a 5x5 ok but, are designed for a 4x4 area....Your light intensity is going to be low everywhere but directly under the lights.

Good luck

I have 2 600's for veg right now and it covers everything except for the middle of the room so its actually the opposite. And i already dont have room to move in there. Canopy has a half pipe shape. Im confident once the 1000s are up itll be plenty bright. Most likely still be less light in the middle. I have a love hate relationship with the a wings for that reason but they really spread the light. Would love to throw 3000 in eventually tho and compare the harvests.

If you do get to it.....Try the 4 1K's and see what yielding is really like! No bat wings. Air cooled and a square hood like the Blockbuster 6 would be perfect for you.

Good Luck !!

You are saying 2 rows of 2000? That would be super tough to pull off in the space especially with the cut off corner but it could be possible. Id have to have an isle going down the center length of the room to get in and work. Aircooled hoods would be a pain in the ass tho. Why not just cool the wings with the mini split?

There, you got it now - 2 rows with the isle down the center.....

Cooling 4 1K's with a mini split will be costly and even 1400BTU will struggle with that kind of heat......I"ll bet the ballasts are in the room too, right? THAT will cause even MORE heat in the room......Trust me son, 4 1k's - cooled hoods like 4 Blockbuster 6's AND a mini split too!....You will need to consider a dehumidifier....I might consider a TRIPP LITE 1200btu portable AC as minimum and it will dehumidify also.......Check out Tripp Lite's web site for available cooling solutions.....They are the FIRST choice in portable AC's for growing and I ONLY consider tripp lite as good enough!
