  • Have one fan at the bottom blowing the fresh air up towards the extraction and have the other fan blowing over the main cola’s as they develop. Hopefully this will strengthen the plant/thicken up the main stalk, and more importantly prevent the main cola from moulding due to a lack of fresh air reaching the inside of the buds. The top fan I aim to have oscillating.

  • Just discovered this product… apparently prevents bud rot…

“Bud Rot Stop" is a revolutionary product that doesn’t just protect against Bud Rot – it destroys existing infections and restores your plants back to full health. An amazing innovation, Bud Rot Stop works by effectively forcing the Botrytis (bud rot) spores to germinate on your plants and then eliminates them as they form. This completely eradicates the spores from your plant, curing existing infections and preventing new ones from occurring. Highly recommended, especially to people growing heavy flowering plants which are more prone to rot”

    http://www.growell.co.uk/p/2475/Bud-Rot-Stop.html

Might have to implement this in my feeding water next time round as a precaution, then again I’d rather not feed the plants anything they don’t necessarily need, will have to do some more research into this product.

  • I will also open up the main cola periodically, say once a week, to allow fresh air in, and to check its condition.

  • I want to get a water heater to warm up my nutrient mix before feeding, as with this grow the nutrients were often quite cold, too cold for my liking.

  • The soil used in this grow was already rich with various nutrients (Biobizz All Mix), and next time I want to use Biobizz Light Mix to give me more control over what I’m feeding my plants in the vegetative stage. I will also wash the soil out before planting the seedlings.

  • Now I kind of know what I’m doing I’ll top my next 2 plants, and see where that gets me.

  • The humidifier was a waste of time I think , with the exception of when I misted the plants. Next grow I’ll probably mist them during the veg stage only. Still got it so might as well use it.

  • In the middle phase of the grow I was moving the light up and down, trying to figure out its best height, and I scorched some of the leaves on one plant. I now know about 30-40cm is the closest I can afford to put them, so will use these figures to keep it a uniform distance throughout the next grow, with the exception of getting the seedlings used to the light initially.

  • There was a lot of nutrient build-up in the soil during the flowering period and this was evident when it came to flushing the plants. I think next time I’ll do a semi-flush every 2 weeks or so during the flowering period, especially if the strains are nutrient sensitive.

  • I used a rubbish little pocket magnifying lense to check the development of the trichomes, which didn’t’ reveal that much. Next time I’m going to buy this USB microscope with 400x zoom (£40)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veho-VMS-004-Discovery-Microscope-Magnification/dp/B002JCSCYI/ref=pd_sim_ce_11

  • The air holes in the bottom of my pot were small and few in numbers. Before I do anything I’ll probably drill a couple extra holes in it to maximise the air reaching the roots.

  • The first stage of this grow was a lot of trial and error, I was struggling with temperatures, had no idea when and how much to feed, and the plants seem to suffer quite a lot in various ways. I can’t really see how their suffering during this stage effected them during flowering, but I’m guessing it has in some way or another. Now my cupboard is all set up and working how i want it to i shouldn't encounter these problems again...hopefully.

  • During the late Veg stage/Early flowering stage a fair amount of leaves began to turn yellow around the edges. I never really found out exactly why this was. Initially when faced with yellowing leaves during the late Veg stage, I upped the nutes after advice from my local grow shop and that seemed to work and the yellowing stopped appearing on newer growth. However during the later stages of this yellowing saga I flushed the plants as for some reason i concluded this discolouration was due to over feeding and it also seemed to work, as the yellowing stopped spreading.
From my experience it seems to be that the cause of the discolouration of leaves depends on what part of the growth phase the plant is in. Essentially this is down to the nutrients being fed due to the different nutes for Veg/Flowering. For my next grow I look to buy a PH meter to give me a better indication of the condition of my soil.

What I’ve concluded:

Yellowing in Veg stage (when the plant is still getting used to the nutrient feedings and there’s not much left in the soil if any to begin with) , upping the nutes should fix things as the plant isn’t getting enough of something or another.
Yellowing in the Flowering stage (when the soil is now rich with nutrients, maybe too rich causing lock out of certain elements), a flush should balance things up.
Correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

  • A lot of people would probably be against the use of this following product, but I decided to use it about half way through my grow in the hope it would keep my plants in pristine condition.

http://www.growell.co.uk/p/2158/Liquid-Silicon.html

Yes its silicon, I was sceptical at first but the guys at the local grow shop seemed adamant it would benefit my plant, along with something called “Organic B”

http://www.dampkring.nl/18652/advanced-nutrients-organic-b.html

Both were fed to the plants just once a week, therefore I had to make a separate batch of feeding water with contained these 2 supplements. In my next grow I look to start using these products from the start as soon as the plants are used to the standard nutrients.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, any other changes will be added here when I start my next grow.

Next 2 strains i plan to grow:

X1 Blueberry 1 - http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/the-doggies-nuts-seeds-blueberry-1-feminized/prod_1063.html

X1 Pure New York Diesel - http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/world-of-seeds-legend-collection-new-york-special/prod_608.html

Anyone with any questions feel free to ask

I'm so glad you're back mate. Been dying to know how this finished.

QQ: How long did you veg, and what did you yield?
WOWgrow, you seem to be my biggest follower! Sorry about not replying to your questions earlier, wanted to finish the journal before initiating a discussion. I vegged for 5 weeks, well 5 weeks from seed to start of flowering, i vegged until they were roughly 1/3 the size i wanted them to be as i heard they stretched x3 their veg size during flowering. As this was my first grow i wanted to keep things simple, i.e. no topping. I always planned to weigh my harvest, until i discovered the mould, and after losing my main cola's i was too wounded to do a final weigh in as it would've shown me how much i really lost. After losing that much bud i figured i'd rather not know exactly how much i yielded, but if i had to guess... i'd say 3-4oz from both plants. Not a huge yielder, but i was limited by A.) the size of my cupboard and B.) the time frame i had to work within. I never grew this strain for the yield, i would've been happy with an oz off each plant so i was happy never the less with what i ended up with.

Just found your threads you started on your grow, was gona give you some advice but i see you're pretty much all done now. Lookin forward to your harvest. Topping seems to have worked well, i plan to do the same on my next grow. I see you're also in the UK, would've sent you a lil sumthing in the post! Next time...

Lol, it's cool man. For anyone wanting to see a complete in depth journal this would definitely be one to watch, the amount of depth you went into is admirable. Considering it was your first grow, you did absolutely awesome, only hindered by the enormous size of the main cola lol. 3-4oz is a great yield mate, especially after losing so much! Seriously though, congrats on a great first grow.

I've heard nothing but praise about NYC diesel, gonna have yourself a very nice follow up harvest! Let me know when you get a journal started for these two :D

Yeh i figured the more depth i go into the more it'll help me with my future grows, something to refer back to, plus i would've killed to have a journal like this to refer to when doing my first grow. The next grow wont be for a while, thinking of startin it when i can afford to take time away from uni, in a different location at the moment and its not really feasible to grow here. Never thought a cola could get too big.... technically it cant ...but mine did in relation to my setup/experience! Glad the mould happened though, got that problem out the way with early in my growing career, wont happen again.

Ive had the pleasure of trying NYC diesel in New York, gave some $ to some hobo, who ran round the corner, i thought that was the last i'd seen of him, but to my surprise he re-appeared 5 mins later with this stuff. Funny how i found him in the first place, i walked into a smoke shop next door to my hotel and they gave me a street corner to go to and ask any1 there, if only linking good quality grade was that easy here... Was so good i felt the risk in bringing some back to the UK was well worth it, and it was. Was quite possibly the best bud i've ever smoked, ever, and i've been to dam a fair few times. And Blueberry is the tastiest bud i've ever had in this country, so yeh, picking my next 2 strains was an easy decision.

Yeh, that's fair enough, no point in taking an unnecessary risk is there.

Lol, that story is hilarious, guess the gamble of giving that hobo your money paid off! Yeh berrys is really nice if you get a good batch of the stuff. There was a lot of it going round my area a while ago but probably only half was actually blueberry. So you actually bought some back to the UK?? How did you manage that?

Yeh I had an old 40gig ipod which I wasn't gona use anymore so opened it up, took the hard drive and battery out and stuffed the inside with bud before closing it back up. Then wrapped it up in a jacket and stuck it in the middle of my suitcase, they weren't gona find it. Didn't want to risk bringing back too much anyway. Was a proper old model ipod so was nice and chunky, enough room for a decent amount.

Where abouts in the UK are you anyway? North/South or Midlands?

Cheers maaan, cattin to start my next grow! I wana try and do a video time lapse of my next one by sticking a webcam in the cupboard or something...might even stick a small speaker in there, play my plants some tunes!

Gona try and make an in depth journal for every strain I grow so I can compare just now nute sensitive they each are and what conditions they like ect so i can get the most out of them the 2nd time i grow each strain, if you get me... saying that though, keeping this journal up to date was loooong!

If by fuzz u mean feds, then nah, only the 2 main mouldy cola's, still tho, was quite a lot! I wasn't gona smoke them though.

If however by fuzz u mean mould then again nah, only the 2 cola's moulded due to their size/air circulation issues..

Thanks for stoppin by

Thanks man, glad you're finding this useful. Was made with people like you in mind. Remember, don't follow all my measurements ect exactly, because i fucked up quite a lot of things during this grow. But thats what a first grow is all about! Use this journal as a guideline. If you got a chance check out my current grow. Not as in depth but far more interesting.

Good luck! Try and get a journal up so i can follow your progress, would be nice to compare.
