2 PLANT HYDRO-system

Hello everyone.
I am currently using a stealth pc box for my grow and wish to create a simple hydro system, small enough for just 2 plants and able to fit inside the growbox with enough room for my babys.
A friend of mine is sorting me out with some california dream clones and i wish to upgrade from soil, today i went out and bought a big ol'bag of hydroleca clay balls, Iv got an old aqua pump ill use.
I have been researching hydro ponic systems but feel unsure as how to go about builting 1 for just 2 plants ( personel smoke)
My dad has concocted some duck shit tea for me so ill be using this as my nutrient, should unless its essential i go out and buy some nutes, What do you think would be the appropiate and easiest hydro method for me ?

thanks alot in advance + rep if you can aid me in my struggle :P

You need to determin what kind of setup you want and just about anything can be scaled down to you're needs. Check out the growroom design setup forums and search pc grows.

I don't think you want to use your "duck shit tea" as nutrients in your hydro system. If you want easy, then buy some General Hydroponics Flora Micro and Flora Bloom nutes and use the Lucas Formula for your whole grow. It's very simple. And I promise you it will work a hell of a lot better than duck shit (which I have very serious doubts about). You will also be needing a pH meter and you'll need to buy a bottle of pH up and pH down. Keep reading about hydro. It's not super hard, but not simple either. Here's a post I put up on how to build a simple DWC (deep water culture) hydro system. Check the very last thread I posted. I just updated the thread with pics on how I build the reservoir. the one I built is for one plant, but you can easily cut 2 holes in the lid for 2 plants, or build 2 reservoirs. They're pretty small. good luck.

Alright ive decided to go with DWC and will be using a plastic tub 5 inches tall 2 Litre tub, I just picked up some Doff - container and basket feed, the hardware store didnt have a large range of nutes this looked ideal, NPK fertiliser solotuion is 7-7-7 the label says its good for healthy growth and large blooms is this ok to use for veg and flower? or should i get my money back and make a mission to a hydro store ( its hard in the snow with no transport)
Also can i place a cutting ( with root gell applied) straight into the hydroleca or should i place it in a rockwool cube embedded in the hydroleca

I don't think 7-7-7 will work for you. You need a "grow" specific nutrient for vegetative cycle and then a "bloom" specific nutrient for the flowering cycle.

For grow you want something like: 7-4-10
For flowering you want something like: 4-8-7

using 7-7-7 across the board will not work right. You'll be giving too much of one type of nute and not enough of another during both cycles of growing (veg and flower)!

Good luck to you wither way dude. Like I said, growing is not easy. Pot is finicky, and wants very specific conditions to reach it's full potential (and I'm not talking just about nutes). I have a feeling you find that out soon enough. i do hope all works out for you, bro.

By the way, the numbers I threw out there are not what I use, just what I found when I first started researching how to grow. They were in my notes. I actually use General Hydroponics nutrients. I use the Flora Micro and the Flora Bloom in conjunction with the Luca Formula at a pH of 5.3 to 5.5. This has worked VERY well for me. As a new grower i seriously suggest trying this for a start.

You'll use
8ml/gal water Flora Micro
16ml/gal water Flora Bloom
pH = 5.5

You can use that all the way through (it is the lucas formula). From Veg to Flower. It works very well. take a look at my album under my profile and check out my girls. They are big, beautiful, healthy, and producing very nice buds!!! :-)

again, good luck to you dude...

PS
the formula I gave you above is for high intensity discharge lighting. If you are going to use CFL's, then it's a different formula which you can easily surf up via google. just type in "lucas formula using cfl" or something to that effect.

I think you may want to consider gowing a bit bigger dude. 2 litres isn't even a gallon... I'm not sure how you'll accomplish a DWC grow in such a shallow reservoir... did you take a look at my 5 gallon DWC reservoir I built? It's pretty small, and should work perfectly for you. It would fit in a closet quite easily. If fact, 2 or 3 of them would!! I'd rethink your reservoir size before I continued. when your plants mature, 2 litres of nutrient solution will not be close to enough. My plants drink a gallon of water a day dude!!! :-)

Like I said, you may want to rethink your set up. also, 5 inches will not be tall enough for DWC either... And yes, I'd suggest taking the nutes you bought back to the store and go visit your hydro store and get your nutes there. I made a suggestion of what to use and how to use it, but there's all kinds of good nutes out there. With some research you should be able to easily decide on what you want to buy..

I place my clones in rockwool only. I also use the gel. Seems to work every time for me...sure it will for you too.

i was thinking some more about your set up. I think that if you are going to use such a small reservoir, then you should consider trying a NFT (nutrient film technique) style grow... Might be better suited to your needs than DWC... just a thought...

well the clone is on its way growing nicely, but one thing worries me, there appears to be a very small amount of white residue on some of the top leaves any one kno what this could be?
