2.5gal vs 5gal?

Strain: Northernlights
Lights: four 40watt fluorescent t12 bulbs + one 68watt cfl + 1 or 2 cfls(I might add to grow)
Grow room: 61inches x 23inches and maximum height is 56inches.

Im about to go to the store, what size planters should I get and how many should I get.
Im thinking that if I sog or scrog I can get 4-5 five gallon pots in there maybe even 6 with good results. But then I might get better results growing 6-8 plants in 2.5 gal.
Im using fluroes to keep the heat down.

You don't want too many plants for your lights. It's all about how many lumens per sq/ft your providing. I have 3gal. pots (9x) under a 600w.
Lumens baby, Lumens!

4200Lumens with the 68 watt cfl, and 3200 Lumens for the 40watt bulbs(im not sure if its 3200lumens for two bulbs or for one).
I got about 10,600 lumens right now, Ill probably make that 14,800 lumens after the plants get bigger. And if they get really big I might add an other 4200. So Ill have around 19,000 lumens by flowering.

I really want a minimum of 6 plants, but if I could add some more that would make my day. What does everyone think?

I heard that I could grow a good sized plant with 2500 lumens, so I could grow about 5, maximum 6 when I get that new bulb. Ill probably just go with some 2.5 or 3gal. Probably best.

this light is not enough for 1 plant my friend, 400w hps is pleasureble for 1sqmeter and this is 59.950 lumens for 1sqm, for super results in 1sqm you need 600w (98.000 lumens) and with best ventilation you can uptake it to 1000w(148.000 lumens)

yeah you need some good lighting when trying to grow 6 decent size plants. As far as pots, you should order a few 1.5 - 2 gal Air Pots online they are only about 5 bucks each and from the grows ive seen they are worth it. I have two im eager to use on my next grow already

Damn, I might just go for that HID bulb then. So would 400w be good enough for 3plants? Maybe even 4 if I sqeezed it in there?

I was hopping to get better gear after my first harvest, Im working with a really small budget. (Otherwise I can't smoke until harvest)
Do you think I could get a 400w hps with the ballast for under 100?

not under a 100 i dont think you could...he got his, a cool tube with 600w ballast and a bulb for 130, i got a 150hps with built in ballast for under 100, im doing 2 under it right now and they seem to be doing fine

Hmm, ok.
An other question. In a few of the grow vids I have seen i've noticed the hid bulb hanging down from a socket attached to a wire. Is that socket/bulb specificly built so it doesn't need a ballast? Or is it hiding at the end of the cord?

no... its electricly needed... to make big spark to fire the gases in the lamp... because of my bad language i cant describe it better :D

I just went to the local hydro shop and this lady tried to charge me 240bucks for a 400watt hps with everything. Thats some hardcore bs. I couldnt' find any soiless medium either. Im probably gonna be ordering everything online.

this is what my friend ordered, shipping is free too..it looked good and it came with a really good ballast too
6" ducting fits on both ends perfectly, or as my friend has his rigged since he didnt have 6 inch ducting only 4", he took one of those large red plastic folgers coffee cans and it fit around the end perfectly, then he just cut a 4" hole in that and fed the ducting through, it works great
this things like 2-2 1/2 feet long also
