1st time grow, wondering how plants look

this is my first post, and grow. Hello RIU.. Lol, any way, I got a little somethin goin on, I have 2 plants growing in a mixture of
Fox Farm Ocean forest- 60%
Perilite- 15%
River Sand- 10% (for airation and drainage)
Earthworm Castings- 10%
Premixed Fertilizer (american pride 9-6-6)- 5%

They are slightly less than 2 weeks old, and they are under a 600 watt MH running 18-6.. I understand im wasting electricy with such a big light and such little amount of plants, but somethings didnt go as planned (some seeds never germed) yadayada.. Anyway here they are, they both look sexy and healthy, but my only concern is the taller of the two has a concaving pattern going on in some leaves. Like I said, first time grow, Natural or Abnormal? Any comments are appreciated, thank you.

For some reason i cant see your pix but if by concaving you mean the edges of the leaves are highier than the centers making a shape similar to a half-pipe ramp, then what you got is either heat stress or low humidity, maybe the soil is getting dry. Its often called "cupping" or "canoeing" because of the shape the leaves make. From what i gather its a natural reaction by leaves to try and minimize losing moisture. My leaves were doing it yesterday prior to their watering, was back to normal 3 hours later. I would start by making sure your MH isnt to close, put ur hand level with ur plant tops and see if ur hand feels hot. If ur satisfied its not heat, and your soil is wet or damp then its probably humidity, in which case you can mist. Its not serious your girl will be just fine.

Hello, they look great to me. Since they are under the MH keep your leaves with no water on them, it will burn them. Also when you water you want to make sure you water the soil evenly so the roots go searching for moisture to the sides as well and not just downward. You want to make sure you water all around the inner edges of the pot. How far is the light to the plants? I belive it should be about 3 feet when your dealing with seedlings. Keep up the good work!

The lights is approx 18 inches away, this is a pretty exciting experience for me lol, everytime i come home from school they look like they just keep growing and growing. The one sometimes leans a small amount, so i simply built up a triangular base of soil to propel it upwards. Do you suppose this is ok to do? Whatever works right? Thanks..

That might be alittle close for a seedling but i dont use HID so ignore me and go by temp. The right one looks great. Im on my first grow to and every morning when the lights come on im so smitten about the growth.

I agree with tree. Might want to lift that hali up a foot or so.

looks good over all... although i wouldn't spray them while the lights on...

Dont need to go a foot, just a few inches, u just want to go far enough to diminish the heat but without sacrificing to much light. Raise it 3 inches, and youll be good id bet.

Too much of anything is a bad thing. You can have too much light in the grow room.

Exactly, that light will also dry out your soil faster. 2-3 feet is ideal for seedlings. You might think they will grow faster if the light is closer, while true for bigger plants, not true for seedlings as you can cause heat stress.

Hey, just giving you guys an update.. The one pretty much stopped growing and just got all orange and stuff and it made me depressed to look at it, so i uprooted it and threw it out lol. So now I'm down to just one plant. But she is a beauty, check her out and let me know what yous think. And by saying "her" its pure wishfull thinking.

That girl is looking really good to me. Watch your light distance, don't over feed, and don't over water. Looks like you will have a nice end result. Good luck!

What are you growin here buddy?
+ also, id soak the whle soil instead of where you " think " the roots might be. you oculd have a tip that went for a walk one day and reached out to your potting wall, in that case youre lacking it out by only watering the middle

i got a bag seed of sour grapes right now that started out verry similar. right now its like 5 weeks and verrrrrrrrry strong. although in sexing this past week i thing i see some balls up top. we'll check it out tonight!

I am not sure of the strain, it came out of a batch of some banger buds though.. I had a few ssdhxwhite dwarf seeds but they never germed. And then i had a whole bunch of Talk of Kabul seeds that germed but never survived. After they germed, and had the root coming out, i put them slightly under the soil and i though it was weird that they didnt sprout in a week. So i dug down a little to discover that their root went back into the seed!!! So what was supposed to be a grow of about 6 plants turned out to be one of just 1.

Thank you for your advice, its been approx 10 days since and my plant is flourishing. Check it out, approaching her 4th week.
