1st grow

Hey guys, first grow here and I’m wondering how they’re looking from some experienced growers. There are only 2 plants there, northern lights. I think the have quite a few colas but the thicker one in front is super thick, whereas the one in back lost like 3main branches and is getting more light penetration. I’ve read a lot about defoliation but I’m in early week 4 of flower and most info says to not defoliate after the 3rd week of flower. Should I get 20 or 30% of the offending leaves out to get more light to the main colas? Also do I cut at the branch or a little up on the leaf stem to avoid disturbing buds? And how long do you think I have? Thanks guys.

I think they would be fine if you lightly defoliated each day for about a week. Just take the really big ones off. I try to cut them at the branch, but I doubt it really matter.

It doesn't really matter if it's blurple lighting when he's asking about defoliation. If he were asking about a deficiency then that would be a different story.

Thanks bud, didn’t think I’d have to point that out but I used it on purpose to highlight the white spots

Oof, please use regular lighting for pics?
Really, do you just troll people all day. Yes I am actually looking for criticism but stick to the question not just random aesthetics jabs. Tell me bud why exactly would I need to use regular lighting? You just don’t like purple or what sweetie? Sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities.

Looks like your on the right track for first go around, you'll probably want to change lighting in the future, more more more!

op we just bustin balls. truth is blurples are old-new tech. as some of the first leds to be mass marketed for growing blurples had their day. personally i never bit on the blurple craze. didnt sell it for me. i went down the cmh-cobs route and im happy i did. blurples can grow weed. no doubt. but they just aren't efficient and generally not even close to the quality of hid. they just dont penetrate well and generally par levels drop off quickly on edges while the middle is high. with wild wattage claims, burnt out chips, rattling fans and quickly degrading light output blurples are best left in the past...where they belong

and by the way your plants look good man. little thick personally i would pull some leaves. week 4 is fine just dont go crazy all at once. remove a few leaves and wait a day or two and remove a few more. she wont notice a thing. i remove bothersome leaves at any point in flower but try to not do much if any at all after week 6. but if a buds getting shaded and it cant be tucked well chop chop
if you choose not to then remove lower growth being shaded out or "lollipop".
this will make the plant focus more on the tops getting the good stuff
