1st grow with BCNL producer... God bud!

Hey guys... so after much deliberation I decided to drop the coin and invest in a producer. I got everything set up... went ahead and decided to try a strain all my friends were ranting and raving about... "God bud". Anyways...

I germinated the seeds in paper towels while I soaked the rockwool in PH balanced water overnight. Planted them a couple days ago, and left them in the dark with 80% or so humidity. 2 of my babies didn't sprout, they were culled, and this is what remains. Right now I have them under a 125w CFL light on an 18/6 cycle, and I'm misting them with pH balanced water two-three times a day. Overall theyre starting to look pretty good, except for a couple that rooted funny... my fault I'm sure. Anyways, here are some pics, stay tuned for progress!! Two of the pictures show the seedlings i'm concerned about, the others look fine.

Side note: I'm also trying to get my hands on some clones this week for an "in the mean-time crop". These little sprouts will take a long time to grow into mums healthy enough to feed my 18 plant producer, so I figure i'll grow them out while I get another crop going in the meantime! If that pans out, i'll post that in this thread as well.

BCNL does have some very nice kit, seen it at work. I can tell ya right off the bat from looking at your pics that you're getting some serious stretching happening.....the reason for this I think is because your 125 cfl is too far away from your seedlings. It's a design flaw that both the bloombox and Producer have....but it can be easily rectified by placing milk crates or something under your tray to bring them up to where they need to be to get the light they're reaching for.

Good luck!

Hey buddy, I really appreciate the tip, i'm going to throw a phone book or something under that tray and bring em up as close as I can while still keeping the lid on. By looking at those pics, how long do you figure I should keep this lid on for?

Im dialed in...im about 2 weeks ahead on you...but i started from clone

Hey buddy! glad to have you on board!

I actually just got 12 purple kush clones from a buddy, so those will be the new project for now, and I have a seperate 125/400 kit for mommas and clones. The god bud is going in there for my next run.

So, not going to be a full harvest this time around but that's ok, i'll probably mess it up anyways. I'll take some pics of the clones. They were already about 6 inches high when I got them, showing tons of roots out of the 1 inch rockwool. So, I threw them right into the 3 inch cubes and started a 18/6 cycle with the CFL and the 2x400w MH going. I plugged them into the drip, and put in a half-solution of the veg 1 nutes. Hoping it works out... I'll post some pics tomorrow of what tehy looked like before I plugged them in. I'm hoping they survive the stress and produce some nice roots so I can flower the shit out of them.

Hey by all means brother, the more the merrier. Alright, quick update:

Got ahold of 12 purple kush clones from a buddy. 12 > 0, so here we go!

I'm going to give my little god bud girls another day or so in the 'ducer with the CFLS before moving them along to their own seperate station. The 12 allowed me to still use the CFL + clone tray without blocking any light. Here are some pics of the babies just before transplanted, they are a bit droopy in the pictures, but look surprisingly revived this morning.

The clones are hooked into a half-strength grow A+B week 1 veg solution to get them adjusted. I think I'll just watch the PH and see how they adjust before pushing them up to full strength next week.

I may or may not mess around with LST/topping to puff these plants out a bit now that I have the space to do it... what do you guys think?

Hey still cant roll, thought i'd post this for ya,

The seedling will begin to germinate over the next few days. As soon as growth is visible from the top of your
cubes, it is important to move the clone dome to the cloning tray under the CFL light in your vegetation chamber.
Clone Dome
- The clone dome provided is used to propagate
roots from seedlings or cuttings. The seedlings are grown in
the dome until a good root system is visible protruding out of
the 1-inch rock wool cubes.
The close proximity to the bulb will allow water to condense
on the inside of the lid to create the warm humid environment

(80%) that is needed during the propagating stage. In
approximately 7 days roots should be visible out the bottom
of the cubes.
Begin hardening the plant by slowly opening the vents and
then raising the clear dome over the period of a few days. This
will get the plants used to the outside environment.
Right from BCNL's site.

Hey man, I appreciate that. Honestly, I've been ravaging these forums, BCNL and other sources for information. It pancakes itself in your brain, and it isn't consistent across the board... sometimes it helps to come back to the basics.

Im keeping it warm and humid, and watering with ph balanced water. I hope the little girls make it, all I need is one healthy mamma!

The clones appear to be adjusting reasonably well to the new environment. A few dead leaves I had to crop off, but the big leaves are more upright than they were yesterday.

I'll keep yall posted with more pics today or tomorrow. Thanks for viewing!

Hey guys, no new pics yet... plants were looking a little bit sad so I tried some troubleshooting, and let me give you a little novice tip:

If you, at any point, notice that there's a tiny pool of water on the top of your producer tray... time to troubleshoot! Turn the water override switch on, and if water splashes all over the top of your tray instead of into the ducting that carries water to your plants, you know it isnt plugged in right! I ripped the tubing right off when i lifted my res lid up last time, go me! Plugged it back in, and it now distributes again.

I hope someone found that funny, because it made me laugh. I don't think my plants found it very funny at all, though.

Anyways, ill take pics soon once they show a little growth.

Alright guys, update.

They've been vegging for 6 days in total. For the first 4 days, they were issued a half strength grow a+b solution, then I added enough to bring it up to about 75% and this is where we are now.

I'm still refining the art of pH balancing... I'm checking twice a day, but there have been 2 days where i've given the syringe too much of a squeeze and brought it right down to the 3.8 area...

What I'm currently doing is drawing just a smidgen of pH down to my syringe, then filling the remainder of the syringe with tap water that's been sitting for 24 hours. Then I give it a shake, and slowly drop enough in till it's balanced... I think I have it down now, but there have been mistakes made.

Anyways, that all being said, I'm happy with the growth so far, they're all at about the 7-8" mark. I am noticing discolouration on most of the plants, the tops of them are a much darker green, the bottoms are a more neon green. On one of the plants there is a blotchy yellowish discolouration as well. They're also looking a bit droopy, which I've read is normal until the roots reach the res. Roots by the way are showing on all the plants. They aren't even close to the res yet, but theyre all about a half inch down and spreading out like little spikes.

Anyone want to weigh in on the plant health? I'm planning on flowering in 2 days because of the height... what do yall think?

*edit* I want to outline another concern I have, that I will be fixing in the near future, but might account for some of the plant discolouration. I'm having a tough time dailing in my temps. On top of that, I don't even have a humidity gauge, so I'm just winging it. Right now, I have to close my sliding door when I leave the house, and that's the only air source this room has. When I leave the house, I notice the max temp can be as high as 34 degrees... and as low as 28 or so when the doors open (these are in celsius) and my res temp can be as high as 78 (fahrenheit). I'm intending to invest in some venting to push the hot air from the lights out into a hole in the wall, and also invest in an air conditioner, but I'll need a crop before I can move forward. Will I be able to complete this grow considering this temperature volatility?

you should be able to....i mean as long as the temp does not get to out of control....i had a few issues with discoloration...but i Found out that it may be from your ph going up and down on a constant basis....nothing to worry about as long as its not browning out getting out of control but a little color changing is not to bad...make sure u keep those rez temps down ice bottles work pretty good..someone else use that to remedy there problems...keep it goin...

Don't know what I'm looking at, but keep it up!
:D

Hey sorry, if that was a reference to the strain, it's purple kush. My god bud seedlings were way too stressed out, I made too many mistakes... heat problems, distance from the CFL was too much... I started fresh with those, the rest of my seeds are germinating now and will be ready for my coco hydro pots in a few days.

Thanks smacc, I'm going to do the ice bottle thing tomorrow to manage the issue until i get the proper equipment, thanks for the tip. I'll do a much better job this coming week managing ph and see if that helps. Do you live in BC smacc? Any issues with humidity?

Alright hopeful viewers, here's an update:

This update is occuring at 5 days into my first week of flowering.

I have met the second enemy in my hydroponic quest. I don't have a name for him yet, but I'll describe him as best I can with some help from pictures. Basically, I followed the BCNL feeding schedule for the first week of flowering, and added 40ml of 35% hydrox as well to protect the roots. The first 3 days were looking great, roots on most of the plants were growing amazingly well, others were slowly developing. This is the day I started adding frozen water bottles to the res to help reduce the res temperatures a bit... I think this was the beginning of my new problem.

I noticed on the fourth day, that there was a white, flegmy-snot like substance on my air stones, floating on my res, and on my roots. I also noticed my res had a bit of a 'sweaty' smell to it (although I hate using that term that's the best I can do to describe it). My BCNL guy says its root rot because of the temp issues, but I've read on here it's a type of wet mold that occurs.

At any rate, I've taken a few pictures here. One of my roots on one side, my plants as of today (day 5 flowering), and a picture of the gunk I spent 30 mins fishing out of my res this afternoon.

After fishing out the gunk as best I could, I added another 50ml of hydrox, some fresh de-chlorinated water, and shut the doors.

Does anyone else have any suggestions to battle this beast? I should also add the temperature issue is solved! I sprung for an A/C unit, and I've got my room much cooler, and my res temp is at about 71-73 degrees lights on, 65 or so lights off.

I'm also going to invest in a shop vac tomorrow so I can do a better job cleaning out this res... I don't want any of this crap left when I change my res in 2 days for my week 2.

I'm also hoping on turning on the Co2 next week... anyone want to talk me out of this?

if your not venting your lights makesure it a good 2-3 feet away from the wall. Producers over heat when to close to the wall. For 20 buxs at home depot u can get some dryer vents the aluminum foil looking ones and just vent it away from the producer this will work wonders. Add h202 every 3 days and make sure to dilute it in water before adding. And hook up the co2 nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey buddy, thanks for the tips!

I actually already have hooked up the ducting, and it's running out of the room, but it wasn't enough. My res temp was still too high... the room I have the box in is very small, I think this is why.

I went ahead and sprang for the AC as well, because I knew I would need one for summertime anyways. Right now my rest temperature is at a steady 68-70 all day, which I hear is pretty good.

I have not been diluting before adding, I'll have to look into that.

I'm going to completely empty my res, clean the crap out of it, then on the advice of a BCNL rep just add pH balanced water and hydrox for a few days to clean the roots up. Should I still be adding Co2 without any nutes?
