1st Grow (may have a knack for this)

This is my first grow. Started the plants outside, but built a box and moved them inside. The box keeps getting improved every day. Have them under a 150w Hydrofarm CFL with a daylight bulb, but when i start to flower, i will have (2) 150w CFL's with Warm/bloom bulbs.

Big plants were started May 7th, the smaller ones on May 28th

plan on getting a 250 watt HPS next pay. Im gonna flower when the smaller plants get over 12 inches. What do you think?

sounds good but a 400w would be better u have enough space.

ya man your a natural. are you growing bagseeds? they look great. id start put plants A and B into flowering and start a new batch right away so you can keep your harvest perpetual. do you use any chemical nutrients or organic fertilizers? i think a combination of home made compost and a little guano are better than any chemical

Thanks. They are mostly bagseed, except for the 2 large ones which my buddy gave me seeds(?strain?) from a failed grow last year. Ive been using Grow Big for fertilizer, which he also gave me. Soon as i get my HPS, ill flower the larger ones.

take a few clones from the big ones, then you can ensure females(if either, and i hope both, of the big ones are female) and not have to mess around with seeds. cloning is a good skill too

Thanks, i actually bought cloning hormone, just didnt know if i was gonna use it. Is it a good idea to take the clones before i found out sex for sure, or should i take them once they show sex.

your supposed to take clones before you switch into flowering, stress during the flowering stage can cause a plant to go hermie. so keep them marked (A1 A2 B1 B2) so if plant A turns out male you know plant As clones will be male

I would take as many as possible. Like KaleoXxX mark your moms A B C D E etc then label each clone so that if a male pops up you can kill the mom & all clones. Just be careful and keep your lables right

Lookin to flower within the next two weeks, and need more light.
I have a 150w daylight CFL that my babies seem to love.
(not 150w equivalent, actual 150w)
My space is only 3x3x5 and usually betweeen 76-80 degrees as is.

I either want to get the same light i have just with a warm bulb, or either a 150w or 250w HPS.
(150w CFL w/ bulb = $70)
(150w HPS w/bulb = $70)
(250w HPS w/bulb = $120)

WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY...?

( i would prefer the CFL because i love the one i got, no heat, great growth, but will it be enough?)

(Anyone ever use a 150w HPS)

I would go with this HTGSupply 400 watt High Pressure Sodium Grow Light it's $119 (way better deal than that 250w for 120 ).

Heat does suck but honestly think about how much DIY stuff you have to do to get lights positioned right etc etc. All to just have to do again in a week or so. usin HID the only DIY youll be doing is rigging up a ventilation system if needed (depending on the space a single good fan could eliminate an extreme heats coming from a 400w hps).

If you stay with CFL you will find yourself buying bulbs often and always thinking "If I add just a few more"

Now I am currently doing my first CFL grow since i wanted to test this cfl thing out and try and get the illusive 1g per watt with cfl. But i can say in all honesty that if you can go hps go hps you will never look back and say I should have just stayed with cfl (again not that theres anything wrong with cfl, but hps grows are so much easier and watt for watt produce so much more than cfl)

After my current cfl test i'm going back to the 1k's.

last set of pics before i change the photoperiod. all of the smaller plants are now at least 12" tall, and my two larger ones are 24 and 22" tall. Goin to the growshop tomorrow for some much needed supplemental light

and 5 that are about equal

Day one, obviously no sign of sex yet, however, im surprised at all of the brand new overnight growth where the budsites would be.
