18/6 never again

I agree, if you want to hate me for having my lights at 18/6 then OK! I think the lights need the rest and the plants need a rest too. It's all about making it comfy for the ladies!!

Funny thing is, people will argue this that only veg for two weeks anyway. lol.
I have read many of these threads and the arguments go back and forth and I am not comfortable with which is correct.
I do not subscribe to the notion that the person with the best debate skills knows the right answer.
My grow is in my basement and I have a desk down there and was spending a lot of time down there. A lot of time down there. lol. I found that isn't exactly the healthiest thing to do. I have been setting up a nice office up here in the real world. lol. My office has a closet that is about 9' x 2'. It had stupid sliding doors that are ugly and a pain in the ass. My first thought was to make the closet four feet deep and go with a smaller office, but we recently bought this house and It is a nice house. My girlfriend asked me very nicely, no sawzall! (translation - please don't demo and remodel a perfect room). I found this at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Aviditi-3-Foot-2-Foot-Reflective-Hydroponic/dp/B004U6WCMY/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1328620780&sr=8-3-fkmr0.
I want to put 2 of these next to each other to conduct experiments for myself and anyone who gives a shit. This way I can take two clones or seeds and have them side by side. With each 2 x 3 tent I will only do one or two plants each. Usually one I'm sure.
First off, is this legal, to have 2 or 4 of my plants in a separate room? I am pretty sure it is, I already ordered one tent to check it out. I want to know from tent growers, can the zippers be locked? Is that legal? Or can I put on a closet door and keep that locked? Any ideas, or thoughts from people doing this.

well if you can cut the door open with scissors then its not locked good enough.
People throw up walls with mylar and a locked door and that is legal. It depends on who you ask actually. Locked and secure are two different things. I will probably just build a box around them with a door. Then you will need a screwdriver instead of scissors. lol. I think it's probably a child safety issue. They don't want an infant going into your grow room and chopping down your buds, drying and curing them, then rollings them up and getting high.

24/0 is fine for young plants and short veg time.

If you want to do big bushes/trees 18/6 produces much healthier plants.

I want to set up two small tents and see the difference between 18/6 and 24/0, with a two month veg. I really don't like the idea of my equipment never shutting off and resting. I don't think it's good on anything. If 24 hr is a significant difference, then I will go with it, but I would also then check 23/1 just to let my shit cool off a little bit. Then once I settle that question, I will try that schedule next to one that I do on a 12/1 schedule.

I'm telling ya, 18/6 sucks. What a drastic difference in growth rate compared to 24/0.. I think the faster growth during 24/0 makes up for any energy costs you think you are saving for having the lights off for 6 hours a day.

I'm seeing about a 30% slower growth rate at 2 weeks compared to 24/0 (same strain)... I have always vegged 24/0 but decided to try to save on the electric. I'll just end up vegging longer to make up the difference.
you know at first I was going to comment in contradiction to your findings.... But before I blatedly said something stupid I re-looked up what I thought I knew. which Im glad I did.
I grew up gardening and was always under the impression plants need a dark period or they don't grow as well. I've also read this in other places as well.

Well after diging deeper I've found that their are different types of plants c3 c4 etc... which take up co2 differently depending on lights on or off. aaaahhhh ok then lol
Thanks stumpjumper for encouraging me to do more research and enlightening me...

Happy growings

Hail To The Edison God !! quit fighting nature. it gets dark every day outside. why would anything different be better, when you watch them side by side, through flower, you'll see the 24/0 will be problematic, mites/mold/virus/disease/winged pests, an you dont want any of that due to plant weaknesses. after clones/seedlings develop roots, light go from 24 to 18. there is no debate on this amongst any professional cultivars of the finest medical marijuana, subject to lab scrutiny, monthly. get yourself a refractometer and check the unburned carbs in your leaf material through the grow, the 24hr lite plants will not uptake/burn correctly and completely, resulting in issues later.

peace

Dude, on episode 30 Subcool went to a guy's garden that did 24 hrs and Subcool does 18/6. There is debate among professional cultivators. Subcool has mentioned several times that many growers disagree on veg schedules. Even Ed Rosenthal. I'm not saying which is right, but there is debate for sure.

I hear you and I agree. I do however get tired of hearing the argument about letting everything just shut down and chill the fuck out for a few. I always went 100%, nothing shuts off, lol, but I am currently trying 20/4. Momma had some auto's going also and the breeders for that recommend 20/4 for auto's so I figured cool, we have veg at 20/4 and have the occasional auto hanging out budding, keeping a smile on momma's face. Just from your comment I completely believe you and will probably roll with 22/2 just because. I do like the idea of the lights and the room cooling down.
I run autos in my veg tent that is on 24/7. With no problems,.the auto i just pulled out looks like she will be all most two zips, But will have a weight in few days before she hits the jars.

the extra heat from running the lights constantly 24/7 helps them grow a bit faster in my room
30% is a bold claim, not something i could reproduce myself

nothing wrong with 18 for veg, or even 16 for veg .. each to their own i guess
plants start drooping (sleeping) just after 16 hours of veg anyway, the leaves droop downwards .. i do not see much point in giving them light after that other than to keep the environment more stable and warm
they are not processing light as efficiently when they are sleeping

peace :)

I have to see it myself. lol. I can see 24 hr may produce more, but how much more and is it worth the electricity? Some people swear that your plants may be bigger at the flip, but that the rested plants will do better in the long run so weight after harvest is what's important.
12/1 could very well be the way to go anyway.
