150w Sunsystem HPS in 5'x2'

Hello. Currently I have about 350w of cfl comprised of 40w and 23w. Would this sunsystem 150w be bethere for my 5x2 area? Does this light have the ballast built into the hood? Would this be quieter and cooler than higher watt HPS that have stand alone ballasts? Thanks Screenshot_2015-12-29-01-25-08.png

Self-ballast in the housing. They run hot but folks use clip on fans to disperse the heat from them. It will not cover much area by itself. I would suggest a 400-watt digital ballast system like iPower or Apollo. The yield increase would make it more than worth the extra money.

Ok I probably will just get a stand alone ballast that I can place outside the tent with a 400w or possibly 250w. Thanks. Im looking to upgrade my cfls but probably could still keep some in there. What makes a ballast quiet? Fanless models?

Hotrodharley I already tried a digital 400w iPower ballast with a fan and it ran too loud. The heat was manageable

For the money 400 will be your best bet...florescent are great for starting, 250 great for small plants..but 400 will give you a decent yield for the finish...last time I grew indoors, I got 14 zips from a 400...not a bad deal indeed.

I upgraded my army of hot CFL's with a cheap ufo style led ufo from ebay. It was a 135 watt multi spectrum led type (purplish light with blue and red led's). Cost about the same as a 150 watt HPS $75. It was perfect for my one plant. Most importantly and end to heat issues. I have since upgraded to even better led's, and I'm glad I never went the MH/HPS route.

I can easily get the reflector and bulb, I'm really just trying to find a good ballast that's as quiet as possible
