No stressing or keeping longer. I apply SodiumThioSulphate(STS). You can read about it here:
https://www.rollitup.org/t/using-collidial-silver-to-make-auto-fem-seeds.709446/#post-9511224
On the post it says to dilute the solution to 1:9 ratio. I do it 1:5, cause for some strains it's too little to trigger male part growth so I just don't want to risk. If a solution is 1-2 months old, I do 1:1.
It also says that plant leaves yellow. Usually they do not. Not for me or for any of my friends who use this method.

I adapted my habits through those couple years I've been growing combining every bits and pieces into one procedure. Because my grow space is vertically bound to 2-2.5' and I'm a sativa lover I was trying to keep plants as low as possible.
after all different ways of growing now I do the following.
Depending how stretchy the plant is I top after 3-4th node for 4 colas. Then take cuttings at bottom 1-2 nodes and trim its fan leaves at those nodes. Then upcan and bury the stem till fan leaves. Then I root the cuttings and in the meantime give couple of weeks for the plant to fill in new pot with roots. Then I flip the main plant.
clones.
I used to make one clone for Fem>male role and keep the rest survived clones as fem seed carriers.
Now I do the following. Keep the fastest clone, when it starts growing I trim it and top for 2 colas. Veg till ~15" and then flip. While vegging, about 1 week before flip I start spraying STS. Insert a sheet of plastic to block STS getting on one of the tops and spray another till runoff. I continuously spray every 1-4 days till first male flowers appear. Then I just let it flower. By the time first male flowers start opening fem cola has quite a lot of flowers already, so I take tweezers pinch one flower and gently continuously hit it on the paper. After I get some pollen, I just gently pick it with paintbrush and apply on the flowers. I do that for a week or a bit more and keep painting every white pistil I see until most of them recede or I get bored with the process and decide that I have enough seeded calyxes already. After I don't need male top, I just cut it at the bottom and leave only fem cola and continue flowering it.
In 4-6 weeks seeds are ready to be harvested. So I cut it and hang. When the plant is dry, I start seed picking :)

It's fucken ridiculous. This spinosad stuff just works. Cant believe that ive been trying to grow ignoring thrips since february and pretty much in one day the problem is gone. It wasnt easy to find spinosad containing product in europe, in the end found it in belgium, but now plants are getting to healthy green.
It kills so effectively and after it breaks down within couple of days, i respray. 0plant damage, not like with kalium salts based spray i was using. Anyway, pictures soon to come :) maybe tmrw.

Picture time!

So in my growroom I have:
NL#5xHaze clone that was topped for 2 and is about to be upcanned to 2gal pot.
Malawi clone also topped for 2, that is sitting in 2gal pot
Malawi mainlined for 8 that is about to go to 4+ gal pot.

Lets start with NL5H. Can't wait to see how she will grow under normal conditions.

Malawi clone. Look closely at leaves. Narrow etc.

NOW her mother, mainlined for 8 tops. Check how different the leaves look like. I guess it's related to this auxin distribution due to mainlining. I believe when it will grow taller, leaves will stretch back to thin serrated shape.
Her tops are growing nice and even. She is at 67th day since she broke through the soil. That's a lot of veg time... Like I said already before, not only those bastard thrips died, by the time plant stopped taking damage, it started showing some nice growth. It still wonders me how much stress seals the growth.

Also I saw Nev. Haze already dropping tap root and C99 breaking the shell. We'll see how they will look in 24 hours.

It's not difficult, although it requires some attention. The bad thing it takes 2-3weeks to root, so growing from seed you would get the same size faster. But growing from clone you would have the same specs as the mother and by the time cutting roots it's matures faster, whereas seedling takes longer. So both has pros and cons. And its surely fun :)

So I believe I will need to sprout another C99... This one first showed 2 tap roots:

Then one twin did not make it. But I see that another twin made not that much further... There's nothing inside cotyledons. Probably I need to start soaking another C99.
Nev. Haze on the left, C99 on the right

This is how Malawi looked 4days ago:

And this is today. I so much enjoy plants growing on normal pace.

And those are two clones that very soon will start receiving STS on one of their branches.

Cheers!

actually treat that c99 well and it might turn itself around!

My Northern Lights opened it's cotyledons just like that and I also thought it would just end up being a dud. It even sprouted a pistil right after! (check my grow, it has a super macro of that). But against all odds it got around to growing up rather normally. Now I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a male or a hermie. But that's just my 2 cents for you to not waste a seed =P

Also, twin taproots from one seed is freaky but actually very interesting, I was marvelled. =)

Yeah.. that C99ner is worrying me.. Really want to grow it out. Have like 2 more beans of her that came from Female Seeds. I also have selfed C99 seeds that I made from one of those C99(over 300). Still I want to lock that awesome trait combination that I had a year ago.

Yeah two tap roots is not that ordinary, but here's a pic of C99 that I sprouted month ago for my wifey from my selfed batch as a decoration in the kitchen.
Both from one seed :)

nah... there is no light in there and the pot has no holes at the bottom, so my wifey drowned them.. one of them is still alive, but looks only a tad bigger than in this pic :/ It was never meant to become a tree but I surely expected that bad conditions will affect it a bit less..

Hey man, wzup. I've seen you at rm3. My profile there is at
rmsite/index.php?action=profile;u=3666
Nl5xH in the Pic says Riddle, but it's only cause when MrEDuck sent me all those beans commented that theycame from him. I did not know whos they were before him :) I really wanted to grow that out, but I had terrible problems in my garden. Thrips were thriving on this Nl5H. Only couple of weeks ago I got rid of all of them with some spinosad solution.
I had only one bean and was afraid it was too old to sprout so I also used GA3 on it. so besides thrips I had terrible stretch, male flowers and if you would scroll back you would see those crazy stretched buds. Still have no clue who was responsible for what, but I took a cutting and I'm planning on making some seeds. I love how that plant looks. Grows into a strong bush with some nice branches. Started curing it couple days ago, so in few weeks will be trying out.

I'm still using 150W, but also added 70W CMH and 2x25W T5 coral lights. But whenever I need to veg some cuttings, I move those lights around. only 150W that always stays in that room.

Yup, good dog and shakrsbreath are also waiting for their turn to be sprouted :)
And yeah, GB is awesome guy. Just like pretty much all of them over there :)

Will be unloading more pics tomrw. Started spraying with STS NL5H and Malawi cuttings

Hi simisimis,
nice plants.As always :)
That Nl5H looks really beautiful. I'm about to renew my seedbank and this seems like a good pretendent.
But main question,is it smelly strain while growing? NL5 is low odor so i keep my fingers crossed :)

About thrips.I have them too for the second time now.Yeah, spinosad is hardly obtainable in EU because its banned here. But its safe for human as far as i know.
Other effective insecticides are highly poisonous and its not recomended using during flowering.
My C99 is near to finish and the leaves are almost white because of thrips...Sadly i do not have old camera now... :)
P.S. i guess you already know, that you should respray plants and drench top of the soil second time after 14days to complete get rid of them.

Hey man, nice to see you around! About thrips, I saw some article that on 2008 it was accepted in eu, but maybe it also differs per country. Well at least italy and belgium have this product. About reapplying the solution, i did not read that it was needed, but I'm still spraying my plants and try to find evidence of dead or alive thrips, but they're just not there :))
about the odor. A rule of thumb - happy plants don't stink. So if you can smell it, then plant is having issues. Nl5H was smelling. Like all my plants because of bugs, now i have no more smell in my garden. Still it wasn't skunky, more fruity.

Ok, now that i'm awake, it's about time to go take some pics :)

A lot of insecticides was forbiden in 2012 or 2013 year.Spinosad was on the list or no i cant remembernow. But i found already banned other insecticide in local shop... :)
Anyway, about the smell. While i agree with theory that happy plants stink a lot less than it could.Mine C99 fruity pheno is white from thrips, near to finish,3 plants and doesnt stinks outside grow room....Only sweetness near the flowers..But other C99 pheno smell is a lot skunkier... even in veg you can smell it...So yes i need a fruity strain...
I can only guess how noticable odor is from skunks and various kushes.

I grew only sativas.Had 4 strains and have to say that C99 is still on top even on potency side...
Now want to try some hybrids.

That sharks breath is interesting...
Made short reading on NL5H from sensi. Some say "good" phenos are rare or unobtainable from several packs.Price 25 euros per seed is the highest ive seen so far.But this wont stop keep from wanting it...

When I look how kalium salt based anti thrip 'not banned' bio solution was burning my plant and this spinosad derived from bacteria kills every thrip withing 24hours and makes plant go all over the place.. Then the only idea I can up with is - fuck them... Even if it does some harm, while applying it in veg I thing it will break down long before the plant will finish.

So far C99 was also win win for me no matter what I tried. But that might be because me not able to bring up the best of sative in my plants that I grew with this little lights and small room. PurpleAKxJH that I received with all those other beans was also rocking. Still missed the trippy giggly part.

I used to grow C99 and have all my rooms filled with its pleasant smell. As I started to dial in my env now I only get it to smell at a ripe time. And I kind of miss it :D

Now to the promissed pic update.

so it looks like C99 is going to live

NevH does not seem to be too much surprised about those news.

Malawi is busy with body building.

Malawi leaves started a new node which already has thin and long leafs.

Cuttings started to receive STS. Malawi is 11" tall in is in need of being flipped.. Stretchy beast, comparing to Nl5H. Also leafs are getting thinner with every node. I might be flipping this beast tonight as it's growing like crazy.

Nl5H clone is short, fat leafs, strong stem and is 4-5" lower than malawi cut, but has same node count. Can't wait to start flowering her and see how she will grow in normal conditions.
