150 watt hps or 200 watt cfl for flowering?

I ask because I'm concerned about the heat in my 25-5/8 by 18-7/8 by 69-3/8 inches (LxWxH) flowering cabinet because of the size and the fact that its plastic. And if the heats not going to be a problem then what about a 250 watt HPS? The CFL wont produce much heat of course but the HID is better so which is it in your opinion? I intend to use a 125 watt cfl for veg probably.
Thanks for your reply's in advance!

I'm gonna go with CFLs because you say it's a small plastic space. Heat will be a problem with a 250hps and I don't like the combo of plastic and excess heat. I've gotten very repectable results with cfls. Have enough of em, and keep them close.

250W and under HPS really dont have that bad of a heat output once you get to 400 and above thats when heat really starts to become an issue. If you have a hps as you can see from the posts above mine hps is highly recommended good luck with the grow bro :blsmoke:

HPS for the win

If heat is a problem, get a cool tube.

I grow in 30c ambient temperatures, inside my wardrobe with a 600w HPS cool tube, and I don't have heat problems. Temp is normally same in my wardrobe as ambient temp. Altough I've got some other exhaust happening as well as the cool tube.

if u use 200w of cfl, ull prb have more heat than a 150 hps. no matter what it has to be vented well to get co2 and if ur using this choice of lights, our not buying a co2 tank. might as well push enough air to cool them. if its money, u can use cfls fine, but hps will always be your next upgrade.

I have used both & the HPS by FAR works better than the cfls. The buds are far more dense & sugary.

First pic is t-12 flouro tubes with some cfls. The second & 3rd are under 2-150 watt HPS lights. Same cabinet

THe first was Northern Lights & The other grow was Auto Fem Bubbalicous from Nirvana.

carl, it looks like you have another light above those two side hps ballast, what is it cause you have excellent light depth. i have a 400 and am trying to get that forearm size bud, but light seems to stop a foot below my canopy

I agree that you'll get better results with HPS.
But I grow with 150s, I know what kind of heat they produce. Hot plastic bends and deforms over time, and can really make for a bad scene. Yes it can be done properly, but the you really need to keep an eye on things well. The hazards of heat/plastic/small space are real.

Here's what I've done with 2 - 23w cfls.

The hps most likely has similar if not higher lumens per watt of power. It also has a better spectrum of light.

THere are 8 t-12 flouro tubes but I kept them off except for pictures. I was told that with the distance from the plants they would be useless anyways. I will use them for vegging my next grow then switch the HPS's on to flower.

THe biggest thing I noticed about cfls buds is that when they cure they become very light & airy. The HPS buds are far more dense.

Ok then two questions,

Anyone got a good diy cooltube for 150w link?

And I haven't bought my two Cabinets yet which can be seen here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/191-8423950-3014265?a=B000063SLI and am open to different cabinet ideas so if you got any let me know!

Though I like this cabinet because it can be locked and it's tall enough that I could veg and flower to 4 feet which is pretty big for a little cabinet.

Btw my nirvana white widow seeds shipped today and this is my first grow!!!! Thinking about attempting a perpetual SOG but maybe first time I'll just grow 1 for practice.

Was thinking of having 4 in veg 1 week apart and 4 in flower one week apart the idea being to harvest 1 plant per week. For me so long as I can get a least 1/4 dry a plant ill be happy at one harvest a week. I could do as many as 12 in each cabinet based on my sog research. Scratch that looking at the flower time i may have to go with 8 in veg and 8 in flower to get a fully mature WW every week.

Any suggestions?

In my perpetual with 2 - 150w, I've got 6 plants in flower, each 10 days apart, anywhere from 7-12 in veg at a time. Each has been bringing 1.5-2 oz at harvest.

I veg until they're big enough - about 18" high, LST to give at least 8 main colas.
They end about 24-30" high. Some colas get 8-10" and cure up to almost a 1/4oz
